The End of the World Could Happen at Any Minute

Uh-oh. In his new book called Starmus, famous physicist Stephen Hawking writes that the "God Particle" that's believed to have created our world could actually destroy it. Here's what he explains: the particle has a "worrisome feature" that means it could become unstable at very high energies and create a black hole that would mean doomsday. "This could happen at any time and we wouldn't see it coming," he claims.

Don't worry yet, though — this black hole could take trillions of years to occur, and the conditions needed to make it happen are "unlikely to be funded in the present economic climate," he added. Phew?
