The New Captain America Is . . . the Falcon!

The Captain America you know and love today, Steve Rogers, is about to be replaced with a familiar face, Sam Wilson aka the Falcon. Just days after announcing that the newest Thor is a woman, Marvel revealed a changing of the guard for another superhero on The Colbert Report Wednesday evening.

The Falcon, who you might recall from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, had some incredibly modern wings and will take over the shield this October in All-New Captain America #1 by Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen.

Rick explained in a blog post on Marvel's site that while Sam shares many of the retiring Captain America Steve Rodgers's beliefs, "He didn't grow up in the 1930s, he's a modern-day man in touch with the problems of the 21st century."

Sam will have a greater interest in the everyday person, Marvel says. With his nonmilitary background veering greatly away from that of Steve Rodgers, he will be "instinctively skeptical of any situation that calls for just following orders."

Watch the announcement be made on The Colbert Report below, and see Stephen as The Falcon.
