The Makeup Look You'll Want to Wear to Work Tomorrow

In recent seasons, the runway has moved farther away from real-girl inspiration and more toward the creative end of the spectrum (like The Hunger Games' Capitol-style bold). Designers are opting for #iwokeuplikethis nothingness or asking artists to drench the models' strands in hair spray (did you see Alexander Wang's undead beauty look?). But there is a glimmer of hope within the fray — every-girl brands like Banana Republic and J.Crew understand the kind of hair and makeup average women actually want!

The models at both presentations sported glowy skin, flushed cheeks, and brushed-up brows. Meanwhile, the hair was textured without being a cuckoo's nest of flyaways (a very delicate balance to achieve). Backstage at J.Crew, makeup artist Troi Ollivierre selected a pink lip stain to give models an après-ski glow. On the other hand, the Banana Republic crew was painted with a vibrant red pout. Lead makeup artist Sarah Lucero mixed a custom color using Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick ($22) in Fiery and Tesoro. Combined, the two makeup looks are perfect for transitioning from day to night. Perhaps there is still hope for wearable beauty at Fashion Week after all?
