20 Brand Spankin' New Braids You Won't Be Able to Resist

For the Rachel Zoe show, L'Oréal Professionnel stylist Pepper Pastor created a braid within a braid.

From the side . . .

Nick Irwin used nine packs of fake hair to get this jumbo braid at The Blonds. Needless to say, these plaits were heavy duty.

The plait at Michael Kors was loose, low, and disheveled thanks to Orlando Pita. The front was very whimsical with pieces flying all around the face, while the ends were tucked into a simple braid in back.

This braided chignon was a play on Heidi hair with the cornrow down the center and the hanging plaits on the sides.

The hair at Bibhu Mohapatra was inspired by '20s rebel Nancy Cunard. She was both a heiress and an activist, so L'Oréal stylist Amit Abraham created a double-themed look. From the front you can see the braided pompadour that led into a more ladylike chignon.

From the back . . .

If you look closely, you can see the braids hidden in this bohemian hairstyle. Paul Hanlon wanted the models to look as if they just came from a music festival. The two plaits were done near the back of the head. Each piece started as a fishtail and ended in a regular three-strand braid.

The jumbo plaits at Baja East were pulled apart and tousled until you could barely tell it was a braid.

Wella stylist Eugene Souleiman created this four-strand rope braid for the Donna Karan show. The style took two people to do and looks a lot like the friendship bracelets of our childhood.

For the Supima show, the hair was pulled back into classic french braids, giving the models a girlish style.

These pigtails were a throwback to '90s New York City. Eugene Souleiman used Wella Sculpt Force Gel ($14) to give bangs a wet "baby hair" look.

At Mara Hoffman, Nick Irwin for Catwalk by TIGI created a deconstructed braid. He prepped the plait with dry shampoo before blow-drying to get a good grip. Then this fishtail braid was pulled apart and dissected with rubber bands to get the bubble effect.

Tresemmé stylist Jeanie Syfu created a five-strand plait for the Marissa Webb runway. In the end, the braid took on an intricate basket-weave design.

The second style at the Marissa Webb show was part braided undercut, part pompadour. Jeanie Syfu started with two cornrows along the sides and finished with a looser french braid down the center. This look is not for beginner braiders!

Eugene Souleiman used Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse ($16) to create this masculine braid at Peter Som. Although it looks nice and sleek, it's easier to comb out than gel (making second-day hair simple).

The cornrow was done close to the scalp to give that all-American look.

The fishtail at Tome was supersleek and flyaway-free. Lead hairstylist Lauren McCowan pulled inspiration from the traditional Indian touches in the clothing collection.

The pigtails at Tanya Taylor were sleek at the roots and loose near the ends. We may have worn this same style in kindergarten, but somehow this version is runway chic.

The key element to this chignon is actually a simple plait. Rodney Cutler simply rolled the braid under, turned it horizontal, and pinned it up for an easy updo.

Kérastase stylist Odile Gilbert created this rib-cage updo, which is a hybrid between the fishtail and the french braid. The final effect was an extralarge plait that made for a surprise when the models made the turn on the catwalk.
