Exactly one month after the action-packed finale of "The Book of Boba Fett" premiered on Disney+, the streaming platform surprised fans by dropping the first teaser trailer for its "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series on March 9. The video features the long-awaited return of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan. Alec Guinness first portrayed the beloved Jedi in the 1977 film "A New Hope" before McGregor began playing a younger version of him in the Star Wars prequel movies "The Phantom Menace" (1999), "Attack of the Clones" (2002), and "Revenge of the Sith" (2005). Now, after 17 years away from the franchise, McGregor is back.

To celebrate the character's return, "Obi-Wan Kenobi" will premiere on May 25, aka the 45th anniversary of when fans were first introduced to the Jedi in "A New Hope." On Which Planet Does "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Take Place?

The beginning of the trailer shows Obi-Wan traveling through the familiar sands of Tatooine, which is a desert planet we've seen numerous times in the Star Wars universe, including most recently in "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett."

As we know, Obi-Wan has a lot of history with Tatooine. It's where he meets Anakin Skywalker, who becomes his friend and Padawan (and who later becomes Darth Vader), and it's also where he first fights the Sith Lord known as Darth Maul in "The Phantom Menace," who he later faces again on Tatooine in the 2014 animated series "Star Wars: Rebels." The planet is also where Star Wars fans first meet Obi-Wan in "A New Hope."

After Anakin turns to the dark side and his wife, Padmé Amidala, dies in childbirth in "Revenge of the Sith," their twins are separated in order to keep them safe from the Empire, which is still hunting down every last Force user in the galaxy. Their daughter, Leia, is adopted by Senator Bail Organa and his wife, Breha Organa, on Alderaan. Meanwhile, Anakin and Padmé's son, Luke, goes to live on Tatooine with his uncle Owen (aka Anakin's stepbrother) and aunt Beru. Since Luke is believed to be the galaxy's next hope, Obi-Wan watches over him from a distance in order to make sure he remains safe from the Empire, which you can catch a peek of in the trailer.

What Is Fortress Inquisitorius in "Obi-Wan Kenobi"?

In between the events of "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope," Darth Vader orders a group of high-ranking Imperial officers called the Inquisitors to hunt and kill every last remaining Jedi in the galaxy. The organization's base of operations is at an underwater Imperial stronghold called Fortress Inquisitorius. It's located on the moon Nur, which we get a peek of in the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" trailer.

The Inquisitors' HQ is first seen in the 2019 video game "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order," leading many to believe its protagonist — a Jedi named Cal Kestis — might make an appearance in "Obi-Wan Kenobi."

Who Is the Grand Inquisitor in "Obi-Wan Kenobi"?

The Inquisitors are led by the Grand Inquisitor, who used to be a Jedi Knight himself before turning to the dark side. He comes from the Pau'an species, which explains his pale skin, sunken eyes, and jagged teeth and nails.

The Grand Inquisitor in "Rebels" also has a long face, yellow eyes, and red markings on his face. However, in the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" trailer, his appearance is more human-like since his eyes don't seem to glow and his markings are more subtle. Also unlike the animated series, which features Jason Isaacs of the Harry Potter series lending his voice to the Grand Inquisitor, Rupert Friend from the 2021 horror film "Separation" will portray him in the live-action series.

Phil Brown plays an older version of Luke's Uncle Owen in "A New Hope," while Joel Edgerton portrays a younger version of the character in "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith." Fans suspected Edgerton would reprise his role as Owen in "Obi-Wan Kenobi," and they were proved right when the actor appeared in the series's first teaser trailer.

Bonnie Piesse, who plays a younger version of Luke's Aunt Beru in the Star Wars prequel movies, will also mark her return to the franchise with the arrival of "Obi-Wan Kenobi."

The trailer also gives us a glimpse of a neon-lit planet called Daiyu, which we haven't seen before in the Star Wars universe. Is Temuera Morrison in the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Trailer?

At one point in the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" trailer, we see the Grand Inquisitor facing someone who has their back turned away from the camera. A lot of fans theorize the silhouette belongs to none other than Boba Fett actor Temuera Morrison and that he could be portraying a clone trooper like Captain Rex or Commander Cody, who, like Boba Fett, are clones of his father, Jango Fett. One fan did a side-by-side comparison of the mystery person's silhouette with that of Morrison's, and there's no denying they look similar.

Is Han Solo in the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Trailer?

At the end of the trailer, we see a mysterious figure appearing to go up against Reva in a dark alley. The character's face is never shown, but we do see they're holding a blaster in their right hand. While Obi-Wan could have traded his lightsaber for a blaster in an attempt to hide his identity from the Empire, a popular fan theory is that the weapon actually belongs to Han Solo. If so, we might see a de-aged Harrison Ford return as Han in the series, similar to how Mark Hamill returned as Luke in "The Book of Boba Fett," or maybe Alden Ehrenreich will play the character again following his portrayal of Han in the 2018 film "Solo: A Star Wars Story."

In November 2021, Disney released concept art for the show that hinted Obi-Wan and Vader would fight once more in the upcoming series. While Vader doesn't physically appear in the series's teaser trailer, he is heard breathing through his mask at the end of the clip.
