This huge move is partially in response to a "sales slowdown," which has occurred due to shoppers' decreasing interests in malls and department stores. Ulta Beauty shops are largely freestanding and found in strip malls, making them easier and more convenient to visit for many.
"This is a great opportunity to bring MAC on stream to a whole new audience," Karen Buglisi Weiler, global brand president of MAC Cosmetics, told WWD. "In my mind, there's maybe a customer who shops at Ulta, but has never walked into a MAC store. Maybe she's never walked into a Nordstrom to purchase MAC or maybe she's never walked into a Macy's."
Ulta Beauty's executive team shared that MAC is one of its most frequently requested brands, making this partnership a perfect fit.
MAC's offerings at Ulta Beauty will be edited. You'll be able to shop the Studio Fix Fluid and Powder Foundations, as well as three more foundation options, the brand's iconic lipstick, its lip glass, Liptensity lip color, and Retromatte liquid lipstick. Twelve items from "Little MAC," the company's travel-sized range, will also be available, including miniature lipsticks, mascaras, and skin care formulas.
If you're all amped up and ready to use your Ultamate Rewards on MAC, you don't have too long to wait: products will be available on ulta.com in May, then in around 25 stores in June. By the end of this year, more than 100 Ulta Beauty stores will carry MAC Cosmetics.
