Why More and More Celebrity Men Are Dyeing Their Hair Bright Colors

We're pretty used to seeing female celebrities stepping out with a spectrum of brightly colored hair. Kim Kardashian, for example, showed up last week with a fierce black-blue dye job. Lady Gaga, Kelly Osbourne, and Katy Perry have tried just about every hair color imaginable. But when it comes to celebrity men? That's definitely been more of a rarity . . . until recently.

These days, it seems like more and more men in the spotlight are experimenting as well. Just this week, actor Jonah Hill debuted neon pink hair on Instagram. Last week, musician Zayn Malik went for a lovely lilac hue, while Kanye West has recently experimented with a lime green hue. Other male celebs — such as Joe Jonas and Jared Leto — have experimented with bright and bold colors as well.

Though we haven't done any hard studies, we can't help but wonder if this new trend of "rainbow hair" on male celebrities has to do with an ever-increasing acceptance of gender nonconformity. For so long, celebs — and the public at large — have been forced to fit inside a box of what's traditionally considered "masculine" and "feminine."

A decade ago, it would have been considered a big deal when a man wore eyeliner or painted his nails or when a woman opted for a cropped haircut. But we're now seeing a true shift in the narrative, where everyone is pushing away from traditional gender norms, and we couldn't be more here for it. We love that people are starting to do whatever TF they want, and we don't see this slowing down anytime soon. It's about damn time.
