Charlotte Tilbury Just Created Your Dream Fragrance and Eye Shadow Palette
Celebrity makeup artist and boss lady Charlotte Tilbury is known for creating some of the sexiest makeup in the market. And her latest eye shadow palette and first-ever fragrance hit the mark.
To help explain how to wear her makeup and combine shades, she created 10 "girls" with names like The Rock Chick, The Glamour Muse, and The Vintage Vamp. On Aug. 15, she's adding her 11th girl, dubbed The Dreamy Look, to correspond with the release of her premier fragrance, Scent of a Dream. The Dream Look girl is inspired by candlelit makeup seen on models like Gisele Bündchen, Gigi Hadid, and, of course, Kate Moss (who is the face of the Scent of a Dream fragrance).
Charlotte also launched an eye shadow palette, the Legendary Muse Luxury ($52), which features a quad of warm-toned gold shades. She advises to pair it with a pink-mauve Secret Salma Hot Lips lipstick ($32), Rock 'N' Kohl Bedroom Black eyeliner ($27), and her newest thickening Legendary Lashes mascara ($32).
Because no one can inform you about this smoldering makeup look, as well as her pheromone-inducing fragrance, better than herself, we caught up with Charlotte via email on why you seriously need this in your life.
POPSUGAR: Describe the 11th girl's beauty look.
Charlotte Tilbury: I love the way the golds play with the light on the eyes, the bronziness on the cheeks, and the perfect rosiness of the lips. It's a dreamy, otherworldly, spotlit makeup and the perfect airbrushed complexion. It's all about divine smoky golds on the eye that make them look instantly bigger and brighter. Angelic highlights on the skin that play with the light, and perfect, full rosy lips that tantalize and tempt. Secret Salma [lipstick] is a beautiful matte rosebud color that gives you that just-kissed, fuller, wider pout. [The look features] a natural [palette] of neutral tones. It suits anyone from the palest porcelain skin to medium honey skin tones to divine darker complexions. You will enchant!
"Your whole frequency changes when you wear this look."
PS: Why did you want to go into fragrance now?
CT: I always knew I wanted to create my own fragrance. I had been mixing my own original magic secret scent for over 20 years using essential oils and other ingredients from the markets in Ibiza where I grew up. I have always been fascinated with the power of scent. Scent is the only sense that bypasses the conscious hypothalamus (filter) of the brain. It triggers an instant, uncontrollable reaction. I am also a big believer in the power of transformation, and I believe in giving women the tools to become the most beautiful, powerful, and confident versions of themselves. I always say look good, feel good, and smell good!
PS:What inspired the fragrance and the name?
CT: I actually had a very specific moment in mind when I was creating the fragrance. It actually also shaped my perfume advert. I once walked into a party, and I had just sprayed myself with an aura of my secret scent. I walked through to greet my friends, and as I walked, the breeze must have lifted my scent into the air. A man who had been looking quite morose at the bar, suddenly started to make his way towards me exclaiming, "What is that scent?" He was literally mesmerized! He said: "I have smelt this scent before in a dream . . . it represented a woman that I fell in love with, I could smell but I couldn't see her!" It was like he felt like he was connected to me in some way. This triggered my research into the limbic system of the brain and our innate unconscious reactions to different notes that can spark certain memories and feelings.
PS: Tell us more about the scent?
CT:I wanted to create a first-of-its-kind, mind altering, "fleurotic" scent that could literally change the frequency of a room. By that I mean the scent changes the way you feel about yourself, the energy, and the aura you emit, but also directly changes the way others respond to you. I worked with leading neuroscientists and scent experts to realize my scent dream. Under the influence of Dr. Axel's research, I have combined psycho-active notes and fleurotic ingredients together to create a perfume that alters the state of mind. To create what I call the secret to key attraction we combined spellbinding erotic floral extracts and mood-enhancing citrus. [They] ignite positive memories and emotions in the limbic brain. [They also affect] the hypnotic, psycho-active magic molecules that mimic animal pheromone behavior — this is the core of all attraction.
"I wanted to create first-of-its-kind, mind altering, "fleurotic" scent."
PS: How is this a personal scent for you?
CT: The patchouli and the violet are evocative of my childhood. They emote and raise instant memories from my childhood – the memories of power, positivity, love, light, and desire!
PS: What makes this fragrance so forward thinking?
CT:In skin care and makeup, I always work with proven actives and formulas that work for women, but at the same time explore the most amazing cutting edge ingredients to make sure range is at the height of ground-breaking. Scent of a Dream combines intoxicating floral extracts and notes like tuberose, patchouli, jasmine, and violet that have sparked attraction and sensuality for centuries. There are also newly discovered psycho-active magic molecules like iso E super, hedione, and ambroxan that work like animal's pheromones to attract and spark desire. I used psycho-active notes of the future, because I intuitively understand that as wild animals react to pheromones, there is a secret communication of attraction between humans that we call mind and body chemistry. I believe you can use Scent of a Dream to create an emotional pathway with someone else's energy centers: their brain, heart, and sex receptors. You can ignite the senses and directly alter their state of mind and body through this scent, sparking a subliminal key to attraction.
PS: Back to the 11th girl. How did the Scent of a Dream fragrance inspire her?
CT: I wanted a look that could channel the power of attraction that Scent of a Dream gives to the beholder, one that would make all women look and feel like their best, dreamiest selves! The dreamy look is all about hypnotizing beauty that stops men in their tracks. The connection between the scent and the look is that are both the key to attraction – your whole frequency changes when you wear this look. You radiate and captivate endlessly.
PS: What elements of makeup relate back to the fragrance?
CT: The dreamy look is a gorgeous ethereal look that I have created inspired by Kate [Moss]'s majesty, and mesmeric white witch look in my advert. It's all about that golden veil of light that envelops you in a dream, the kind of light you get between worlds – the vintage and the futuristic.
