Despite our prowess with a felt-tipped eyeliner pen, we often stick to the same old cat eye: a thin swipe across the lash line, ending with a tiny tail at the outer corner. It's classic, sure . . . but after a while, we get bored of our signature look. However, Peter Philips, creative and image director for Dior Makeup, is inspiring us to shake up our go-to feline flick.

For the Dior Haute Couture Fall 2016 show, he created more than 40 different takes on the iconic cat eye. There were designs that spotlighted the models' incredible bone structure, while others were so dramatic that they covered the entire upper eyelid. Philips started with two color frameworks — black and gold — before creating graphic, sculpted lines with his medium.

For black, he alternated between Diorshow Pro Liner Waterproof ($32), a gel pencil, and liquid formula Diorshow Art Pen Intense Professional Felt-Tip Eyeliner ($32), finishing each eye with mascara on upper lashes only.

The gold masterpieces were even more stunning. On a select few models, he painted the limited-edition Dior Addict Fluid Shadow in #545 Phenix ($32) on lids using broad strokes. He then opted to skip mascara, making for a foiled statement eye.

The looks varied from punk-rock chic and mod majesty to full-on Cleopatra-like styles, but they were all gorgeous — and they will all motivate you to update your own makeup routine. See our favorite runway moments when you read on.
