Back in August, we reported that YouTube beauty star Jackie Aina had announced a very special collaboration with Too Faced. Rather than teaming up with the playfully inclined brand to release another peach or candy-inspired collection, Aina opted to attack a common frustration in the beauty community: the lack of makeup offerings for darker skin tones.
In an Instagram announcement of her project, Aina wrote, "I will be working with one of my favorite brands @toofaced to help expand their Born This Way foundation line and create darker AND deeper shades for all of you." She went on to write, "I'm so glad that all of the awareness we've created about INCLUSIVENESS is finally being heard and I get to curate these new shades from the FORMULA all the way to the shade names that will be available to all of you in the near future!!!"
We hadn't heard much since then, but that all changed with Jackie's latest YouTube tutorial. The viral star spilled more information about Born This Way in the video above.
"I can't show you the foundation I'm using," Aina said while applying her base with a brush. "Well, technically I can. It's Too Faced Born This Way. But it's my new shade that I created. I can't wait until it comes out. It will be soon, soon, soon."
After that tease, Aina kept mum about when exactly "soon" means, but she went on to totally sell us on the collaboration (as if we weren't already excited enough). After reformulating the shade range, she said, "Now I see what the hype [for Born This Way] is all about."
Aina continued, "Before, if I really wanted to make [the foundation] work, I could make it work. I was using Mahogany. It was the first closest shade to me that came out. I wasn't happy with it because it was way too red. Now that I have this new shade, for the golden realness, it does exactly what I want it to do in a foundation. It's got the perfect amount of coverage. It lets my skin breathe."
Born This Way currently has 24 shades; there is no word yet on how many more iterations will join this new lineup. Watch this space for more information!
