If you've been on TikTok, especially PerfumeTok, you've probably come across beauty content creator Jackie Aina's extensive collection of perfumes and picked up a thing or two about how to layer scents and make them last longer. She's passionate about all things fragrance, as well as making sure that self-care is for everyone and it's more than okay to prioritize it. Enter Forvr Mood, which launched in 2020 during the pandemic. "The one sense of normalcy that I had at that time was fragrance. I was staying home, but I was still wearing perfume, and every single day I was still lighting my candles," Aina says. Amid social-justice protests, too, Aina wanted to focus on taking care of herself and her environment. "It kind of felt like a love letter to what I was going through emotionally at that time, but also my community, and I really put a bigger focus at that time on a brand that centered Black women being taken care of," Aina says.

Working with her now-fiance and co-founder, Denis Asamoah, Aina's vision for the brand was to step away from the overly bougie and intimidating nature of the fragrance industry, and create something that wasn't too kitschy or too niche with a mid-range price point. "I wanted something that was a little bit more modern and definitely luxe, but still attainable," Aina says.

Buying candles, or any fragrance-based product, online is not easy, and that's why the brand prioritizes capturing the feeling and the vibe of a scent. "When we're describing the notes, one person may think lemongrass smells like this, and then the other person may have a completely different definition of what lemongrass smells like. But if I describe to you how you feel, I think people connect with that easier. This is the one that I'm burning when I'm turned up. This one makes me feel relaxed. This one actually makes me feel really romantic," Aina explains.

She also gave us plenty of tips and tricks on how to properly care for candles. "Make sure you're trimming your wick before you burn your candle each and every time; even if you don't think you have to, you probably have to," she says. To prevent tunneling, Aina recommends burning a candle for at least two hours to get an even layered burn pool, and if you don't have the time to let it burn, then don't burn the candle. If you've ever noticed the scent of your candles fading, especially if you use it often, it's probably because you're blowing out your candles, Aina says. "That's literally fragrance you're blowing out, and a lot of people don't know that, so never, ever, ever blow out your candles." The best way to extinguish a candle is to use a snuffer, dip the wick back into the melted wax, or use a lid. "Our candles always come with the lid for this reason; I just put the lid right back on them and they extinguish safely," she explains.

Other than candle care, Aina gives us her tips and tricks on how to live our lives lavishly. As she puts it: "A luxury is supposed to be peace of mind. Things that are luxurious are not just tangible things to me. They're like having access, having time, not having to worry about something . . . if something feels like work or a chore, then it's not a luxury and you need to eliminate it, period."

Beyond creating Forvr Mood and offering candle- and self-care tricks, Aina and Asamoah also shared their current must have products with us ahead.

Jackie Aina's Affordable Must Have

The Black Girl Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($16) is Aina's SPF of choice for its sheer finish and elegant texture. "My skin loves it. It's really pretty, and is on the hydrating side," she says. The sunscreen contains ingredients like avocado, jojoba, cacao, carrot juice, and sunflower oil, which help moisturize and soothe the skin. The broad spectrum SPF 30, meanwhile, protects against UVA and UVB rays. "I've never had an issue with it under makeup, pilling, or being cakey," she says. "It does work really, really well underneath other products."

Pro Tip: Aina recommends this for people with normal to dry skin types, but as someone with a combination skin type, she loves to use this sunscreen too. "I like that this one is more hydrated, because in the winter sometimes my skin seems a little bit drier or if I had just got a chemical peel, I may want something a bit more hydrating, more intense," she says.

To keep himself accountable for his time, avoid distractions, and stay productive, Asamoah uses the Pomodoro Productivity Timer ($19). "What I like to do is break down my task projects into smaller tasks and intervals. Whether it's a 30-minute task, a one-hour task, or even a 15-minute task, I would use the timer to subconsciously remind myself, okay, this is when I need to complete it within this time frame," he says. The key here is no distractions, and that's why he uses an actual timer rather than his phone. Pro Tip: "What I like to do before I go to bed every night, I like to write down three of the most important tasks I want to tackle when I first wake up. Because when you wake up, you know what to do that day. You don't wake up thinking, 'Okay, what am I going to do today?'" Asamoah says.

Jackie Aina's Investment Must Have

Every month, Aina loves to treat herself to a lymphatic drainage massage from Flavia Lanini ($230-$460). "Looking good and feeling good is an investment, too," she says. "Sometimes when my schedule is too busy, and I'm not really on my A game, I get in, and I feel like she just flushed out weeks worth of bad decisions." Aina describes feeling lightweight and amazing after her massages: "I always notice an immediate difference in the muscle definition of my body, or stagnant water weight in places like my abdomen, which is pretty normal, especially if you consume dairy." She also loves the service for its additional features, like the sauna and the ambiance.

Pro Tip: Flavia Lanini's services aren't available everywhere yet. However, you can experience similar effects at home with the Flavia Lanini Spazzola Dry Brush ($32) and the Common Heir Gua Sha Facial Sculptor ($68). Aina uses the dry brush once a week before showering for exfoliation and "to get fluids in your body moving around and just to help drain your lymph nodes," she says. She uses the gua sha every day to massage and sculpt her face.

Emphasizing the importance of a distraction-free workspace, Asamoah replaced his normal notepad with the slim and sleek electronic ReMarkable 2 ($279). He loves the fact that this feels like regular paper and pen, unlike an iPad." I like to write things down rather than maybe taking notes on my laptop or using my phone to take notes. I've been taught that when you are writing things down, you are actually remembering it more," he says. He uses this nifty tool to take all his meeting notes, and he likes that he can convert his notes into PDFs and documents that he can easily send out, rather than have piles of notebooks laying around.

Pro Tip: Asamoah recommends adding a title and date to your notes so that you can stay organized and have the ability to pull relevant information more easily. "I think it's important to have key tags and call to actions that remind you of where the information is," he says.

"A towel warmer is hands down the bougiest but [most] accessible thing you can put in your bathroom," Aina says. She currently uses the Doace Towel Warmer Bucket ($150, originally $160), and she loves that it's digital for easy use and has a timer option. "It feels like I'm in a luxury hotel. It is just the simplest but happiest addition to the home. It's small, easy to store, and it's super cute," she says. Aina likes to do her skin-care routine before her shower, and while she's doing this, she'll place a towel in the towel warmer for about 10 minutes or so. By the time she's done, the towel is evenly nice and hot.

To make her experience even more luxe, Aina loves to use white towels in her home, stating that they "are the epitome of feeling like you're at a hotel." She also highlights that good quality towels don't need to cost that much: "I have towels from Target, I have towels from Walmart, I have towels from Restoration Hardware. If it looks good, it looks good. I just like fresh clean towels."

Pro Tip: "I would say it needs to be in there for at least 10 minutes in order for it to be thoroughly hot. Sometimes I notice if I put it in too soon before a shower, only the top will be hot and not the bottom," Aina says.

Asamoah's mom has always told him to drink at least two cups of water every morning, and although he didn't understand why at first, he has seen the benefits of this habit. He uses the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth Bottle with Flex Cap ($41, originally $50) to drink his warm water in the morning after brushing his teeth and doing his morning skin-care routine. "I've been doing this for now over a year, and it's been the best thing ever in regards to digestion. Having hot water will make me feel refreshed or cleanse my body," Asamoah says.

Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is a must for Aina and Asamoah, and they use the Forvr Mood Ivory Pure Silk Pillowcase ($39). "It's amazing for the skin, it's amazing for the hair. If you're not going to do a bonnet, you at least need to have a silk pillowcase. It's just so nice," Aina says, noting that cotton can be drying on the skin and hair. As a slide sleeper, Asamoah loves how soft it feels on his skin, noting that "I just feel like my face is more secure . . . I never really understood the benefits of it first, but now it's become a ritual."

Pro Tip: "I also travel with them too," Asamoah says. "It's almost like bringing a piece of home with me whenever we go somewhere, which I've been finding is important. Sometimes trips can be long, and you're homesick, and bringing something that reminds you of home is always really nice."

Hermès Birkin 35 Black Togo leather Rose Gold Hardware ($28,500)

"I'm not going to lie. I'm a Birkin girl," Aina says, noting how functional and reliable the designer bags are. Aina prefers bags that hold their structure, and the Birkin 35 is a stiffer option that can stand on its own and maintain its shape. "I carry a bigger one, so I can put my laptop in it. It's a purse and my personal bag at the same time. If I'm going on a bigger trip, I can fit another smaller-sized Birkin inside of it," Aina says. She can also fit a camera, travel-sized perfumes, a wallet and passport, lip balms, a jewelry case, sunscreens, a mini makeup kit, and more. Aina also notes that bags, luxury or not, are meant to be used. "I think sometimes we look at luxury goods as things that are delicate, but honestly they can be, especially when you work hard to get them. But at the same time, these are just things at the end of the day, they're not necessities, so enjoy them and get good use out of them. I enjoy doing that even to my things because it makes me feel like, 'Okay I worked hard. I don't have to treat it like it's delicate. If I can get one, I can get another one', and I feel really proud about that," she says.

Pro Tip: Anytime Aina travels with luxury goods, she makes sure to never check them, so that she can keep an eye on them and have them in her possession and not risk them getting stolen.

Asamoah always travels with his Tomtoc Protective Laptop Shoulder Bag ($48). He likes that he can easily access his laptop or chargers and carry it with him, all while keeping it secure on his body. "I could obviously have a backpack, but I don't know what's always happening behind me and I don't like to carry it on my back," he says. The shoulder bag comes in two colors and a variety of sizes that are compatible with different laptops, ranging from 11 inches to 16 inches. It is also a very durable option that can absorb the shock from drops and falls, so your electronics stay protected no matter what happens during your travels.

He uses it mainly to carry his laptop but he is able to store his Remarkable tablet, chargers, and other accessories and in-flight essentials. "It's easy to get to when you're on a plane," he says.

Pro Tip: As someone who likes to write everything down, Asamoah recommends having a to-do list or a packing list to make sure you don't forget anything.

Jackie Aina's Must Have Candle From Forvr Mood

Aina's must-have Forvr Mood candle of choice is Matcha Bes-teas ($42), with top notes of lemongrass and matcha, which she describes as "just so rich." When they first created this scent, she didn't initially gravitate towards it, noting that she prefers gourmand scents. "We've added boldness, we've added this fresher citrusy twist, so it doesn't just smell too green or too earthy. It's just beautiful," she says. "There's just something about the big fresh citrusy outside open air, like a little bit of crispy, a little sparkly, a little bit of that matcha goodness. It just really fills up the bathroom air so beautifully, especially post-shower," she says. Aina recommends using this candle in your morning routine or during your skin-care routine.

Pro Tip: "I love it in the kitchen too. I love it in the kitchen because it won't disrupt the smell of food if you're cooking. It's a really, really good scent after you're done cleaning," Aina says.

Denis Asamoah's Must Have Candle From Forvr Mood

Asamoah's go-to Forvr Mood candle is Left On Read ($42) for its tropical vibe. It has notes of sea salt, lemon peel, and palm leaves, with heart of hibiscus petals, coconut nectar, white peach, and a base of white amber, sandalwood, and white musk. He is more drawn to more subtle scents. "It's got a scent of coconut milk that's soft, and it's not overwhelming, not overpowering . . . it makes me feel relaxed, and it feels like I'm on vacation," he says.

Pro Tip: Asamoah likes to keep this on his desk because it makes him feel so relaxed. "I have it next to me whilst I'm working so I can feel like I'm in that space. It gives me that vibe, and it makes me more productive," he says.
