Most women complain about their hair in the summertime. Curls tend to frizz up, long hair is hot and gets twirled in a bun, and sleek hair never stays straight, but a solid haircut can fix that. The right layers and length can accentuate your texture and give your overall sartorial sense extra flair. To help you decide which chop is right for you, we chatted with some of the best pros in the biz. Ahead you'll find celebrity inspiration, styling tips, and more!

Texturized Blunt Bob

Those who wish to air-dry their waves will love a texturized blunt bob, as seen on Jhené Aiko. Devachan senior stylist Sergio Delgado said, "This cut should fall between your chin and shoulders with a blunt weight line, keeping it heavy around the perimeter and a long blended face frame and lots of layers to show the movement on the inside of the cut."

What to ask for at the salon: Tell your pro you'd like a heavy bob with lots of movement and layers. Ask to keep it long enough to be pulled back into a small, low ponytail.

At-home styling tip: "Use a dry pomade and slick it back or some hair spray and pull the ends of your hair together to create a more piecey, messy look," added Delgado.

“Think Flashdance curls!” said Spoke & Weal owner and stylist Jon Reyman. “Curls are hot. The hair is heavier at the perimeter, leaving more of a pyramid shape. This simple geometry is very cool right now. Jenny Slate wore it perfectly on the recent episode of Girls.”

What to ask for at the salon: Advise your stylist to “leave the density a little heavier at the perimeter (limit the texturizing),” Reyman explained. “This adds more volume to ends for a pyramid shape that’s looking very cool right now.”

At-home styling tip: If you have natural waves, let it dry naturally. If not, add in a product with some hold and use a diffuser to dry it. “If you are looking to strengthen the shape for a more formal or evening look, diffuse it with a gel or liquid pomade,” Reyman added. “For a more casual look, air-dry with a mix of oil and hold product. Own it.”

Femme Buzz

"This style is a short buzz cut and definitely not for the shy!" said Bumble and Bumble stylist Mischa Golebiewski. "Lightening your natural color, perhaps even adding an unnatural or pastel color, will help soften and feminize the femme buzz look."

What to ask for at the salon: Buzz all of the hair fairly short with a clipper, leaving the top slightly longer. "Use scissors to cut in a bit of texture to break up the shape," she advised. "If you have a strong cowlick, have your stylist go with the growth pattern. This will add even more individuality to the cut. Feminize the look and go blonde (or as light as possible) and tone to a pastel shade."

At-home styling tip: When it comes to styling this look, Golebiewski said, "Don't!" According to her, "It's a wake-up-and-go, wash-and-air-dry cut. The only maintenance are regular cuts to maintain the shape and perhaps a bit of Semisumo to tame unruly hairs."

Try a smooth bob if you want a fashion cut like Zendaya. "The length is great for the warmer months because it is light, it's off the neck, and easy to maintain," explained Lauren Thompson of the Nunzio Saviano salon.

What to ask for at the salon: "Inform your hairdresser that you're looking something highly styled and sophisticated," Thomson offered. The length should be somewhere between the shoulders and chin, depending on how short you would like to go. Oh, and don't forget about chopping that fringe!

At-home styling tip: "When hair is damp, apply a heat-protective spray," explained Thompson. "Make sure you blow-dry the hair smooth and straight. To get the bangs nice and straight, make sure you use a Mason Pearson bush or a fine-tooth comb and comb the bangs back and forth while blow-drying to break any cowlicks. Then, brush the bangs straight down. Lastly, follow with a flatiron, taking small sections to get the hair nice and sleek and straight."

Sleek, Long Layers

This would not be the first time Jennifer Aniston inspired someone to get long layers! But the cut remains a timeless favorite, since it's so flattering. "This cut looks best with a center part, keeping it very symmetrical," explained Delgado. "Keep it long and beachy!"

What to ask for at the salon: Request face-framing layers that start above your chin and are cut at a slight angle.

At-home styling tip: "Wear this cut straight and flatironed, or add some movement with a curling iron to the ends," offered Delgado. Easy enough!

Going big and natural is all about expressing your and your hair’s individuality. “This style is about using the forces of nature!” Reyman said. “Grown-out hair in its natural texture is such a fantastic look for this Spring and Summer. It is less tamed and less styled.” Actress Juno Temple (pictured) and Beyoncé at the Super Bowl are your image inspirations.

What to ask for at the salon: "Ask your hairdresser to texturize your hair and clean up the ends but remove as little length as possible," Reyman offered. "The texturizing will free up your hair to really express itself — as opposed to leaving hair heavy so that it weighs down. Texturizing will allow room for more natural curl lighten the hair for easier lift and movement."

At-home styling tip: According to Reyman, try a combination of oil and hold products to get the best results. "I love the less defined, more unruly curls and texture we have seen from Beyoncé, Juno Temple, and a bunch on the runway," he added.

Bangs and Sideburns

Bangs and Sideburns

According to Golebiewski, the half bob features thick bangs, long layers, and heavy sideburn-type pieces. "I find this perfect for the Summer because you can wear the bangs and sideburns down and have the rest of the hair into a pony or bun," she explained. "The look of having a supercool cut while getting the long hair off your neck and literally feeling cool! Perfect for the girl who wants to have the feeling of short hair but is committed to keeping her length!" See it here on Emma Watson.

What to ask for at the salon: Request a long, textured fringe that blends into soft sideburn pieces that hit between cheekbone and jawline. For rest of the hair, ask for lengthy, seamless layers.

At-home styling tip: "To style this cut, make sure it is blown out or air-dried with smooth bangs and airy sideburns," she said. "Depending on hair texture, let the rest of hair either air-dry with a product like Don't Blow It, or blow out wavier hair with a round brush to smooth. You can also gather it up in a pony or bun to show off the bangs and side pieces."

Thompson is a fan of this popular, universally flattering cut. "It's very chic, fun, and sexy," Thompson said. "This collarbone length is good on many face shapes because it is not too long or too short, yet it still had great shape with the angle through the front." Julianne Hough shows it off perfecly with her shiny blond mane.

What to ask for at the salon: Note that you'd like a collarbone-length cut with long layers and lots of texture.

At-home styling tip: "To style a cut like this, blow-dry the hair straight and curl the hair with a one-inch curing iron or wand," Thompson said. "To create the soft textured curls, wrap the hair around the iron, then comb through with the fingers before the hair has cooled down to soften the wave. Make sure the hair around the front of the face is wrapped away from the face, and alternate which way the hair is wrapped through the sides and back."

Jennifer Hudson rocks this edgy look, which according to Delgado is "super fun, sexy, and chic!" He continued: "It's a very versatile cut! Make it short with little movement on top or longer with some funk and angles framing your face." The style is recommended if your mane has natural texture. He also suggested keeping it tight around the hairline above the ears and nape and slightly angling it near the top of the head.

What to ask for at the salon: Say you'd like a modern pixie. Then add your own flair! Keep it longer in the front to create a side bang or short and messy to make it effortless.

At-home styling tip: "A bit of gel will work wonders and give you a slightly different look each time," noted Delgado.

Sometimes simplicity is the best idea. If you have healthy strands, show them off with this lengthy minimalist look that involves light layering and a lack of pieces around the eyes.

What to ask for at the salon: You want your hairdresser to "leave the back perimeter long, strong, and even and add subtle long layers around the face help the hair move," explained Reyman. "Do not ask for a v shape in the back. This is not a thing. Hair should be one length across the back. Extra light on the layers!"

At-home styling tip: According to Reyman, this cut is super multifunctional. "Wrap dry with an oil product and a light hold product and finish with an oil for the smooth, sleek look we see on Gigi," he said. When it comes to everyday wear, he suggests letting it dry naturally and expand a bit. You can also use round brush to set it during heat styling and get big voluptuous curls. "Or book an appointment for a custom braid," he said. "Take advantage of the versatility."

Choppy Bowl Cut

Rebels like Ruby Rose can pull off this short 'do. The hairstyle is a heavy, choppy fringe that continues all the way around the head.

What to ask for at the salon: Request round layers with longer lengths in the front, hitting just above the eye, explained Golebiewski. "Ask for an undercut for the back and sides, but keep the edges soft," she added.

At-home styling tip: "On smooth or fine hair, style with a texturizing product — such as a sea salt spray — and comb bangs down," she noted. "For hair with more texture, blow-dry hair smooth with a flat brush. Complete it with Cityswept Finish for a more lived-in look."

Long, Textured Layers

"For all of the long-haired girls who do not like to compromise on the length, these long layers and shape around the face is great to lighten up the hair for Summer," Thompson said. "Soft layers will give the have volume and movement, and the shaping around the face is important so that with the length, it doesn't look like the hair is dragging the face down. I like the way Selena's hair is styled in both of these pictures."

What to ask for at the salon: Request the length you desire and then layers that frame the face and accentuate your cheekbones. These pieces add extra volume and movement. "Shaping around the face is important so that with the length, it doesn't look like the hair is dragging the face down," she noted.

At-home styling tip: "Always use a moisturizing cream such as Oribe Supershine Moisture Creme before blow-drying," Thomson warned. "To wear the style straight, blow-dry the hair with a boar-bristle round brush to get the hair smooth and shiny. To get a wavy style, curl the hair with a curling wand, alternating which way the hair is wrapped around the iron."

This chin-length style is all one level with a bit of texture cut into it. This is a great look if you're growing out a pixie or just want to chop it all off to get your ends healthier.

What to ask for at the salon: "Ask your hairdresser to lighten up your hair a bunch!" Reyman advised. "This is accomplished by removing weight with texturing shears or certain techniques with cutting shears. Request a single length at the chin. Weight is removed internally — this is not a layered bob look. No bangs."

At-home styling tip: Tossing it all over to one side is acceptable with this style. "I love how Kristen greases it back," Reyman enthused. "You can mix an oil product with a hold product and run it through your damp hair and let it air-dry, or go for days without washing! Leave it natural and easy. It’s an edgy and athletic look."
