When I was a young, budding makeup addict (and Millburn High School student), there was no mascara I loved more than CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara ($6). The chubby orange tube brought me endless joy and ultrathick lashes as I piled on layers of the formula, usually resulting in me nearly missing my ride to school.

Nearly a decade later, CoverGirl has a new look and a new mascara. The CoverGirl Flourish by Lash Blast Mascara ($7) comes in a metallic teal tube with gold writing and a brand-new skinnier brush. This time around, not only does the formula coat each lash in inky black (or brown if you're so inclined), but it also nourishes your lashes with a blend of papaya, avocado, and coconut oils.

I was eager to try the new mascara and see if it would become my new go-to and took the lash plunge. I wiggled the thinner brush from the base to the tip of my lashes and packed on the formula. The new brush is small enough to reach each lash on the inner and outer corners of my eyes but still engulfs my lashes in the black hue. When I completed my application, I was amazed by how long and separated my lashes looked. The result was pretty natural looking and not the least bit clumpy, making it look like I had millions of lashes on my eye.

So far I'm thrilled with the results and am hoping that the conditioning ingredients actually make my natural lashes stronger. If my lashes do become stronger, they'll take longer to fall out, allowing me to have more lashes at one time. Although I'm constantly experimenting with different mascaras, this teal tube has earned a permanent spot in my mascara wardrobe right alongside my orange high school favorite.

I applied a generous amount of the new mascara onto one eye and left my other eye without mascara to see the drastic difference.
