Ring In The New Year With the Buttercream Blond Hair Color Trend

The biggest hair color trends for 2020 have officially been forecasted, and there's one in particular that will have you calling your hairstylist ASAP: buttercream blond. It is subtle, warm, and wearable through every season. You can transition this hue from Fall to Winter and even Spring into Summer.

"These tones can range from light iridescent gold blonds, light to medium gold, and light to medium warm gold hues," said Redken brand ambassador and colorist Cassondra Kaeding. "A perk to the buttery cream and champagne blond hair color is that you can easily try these hues without having to make a big change."

While this hair color trend can be done on darker hair, it works best if you have a blond base to begin with. Celebrity colorist for Matrix George Papanikolas suggests you bring instructions to your colorist for the most optimal results: "To get this color, lift the base one shade after your highlights to illuminate the color and give a soft golden finish," he said. Then, he recommends using purple-based shampoos at home to help maintain the color.
