Beyoncé took home the coveted fashion icon award at Monday night's CFDA Awards in NYC, and the superstar singer hit the stage to give a heartwarming acceptance speech that brought her mother, Tina Knowles, to tears. Beyoncé, who graced the ceremony in a glittery pantsuit and oversize hat, spoke about the hardships she and her mother faced in the early days of her career with Destiny's Child. "High-end labels didn't really want to dress four black country curvy girls, and we couldn't afford designer dresses and couture," she said. "My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams."

Of Tina's early designs, Beyoncé quipped, "When I wore these clothes, I felt like khaleesi." With smiling husband Jay Z, waving daughter Blue, and a tearful Tina in the audience, Beyoncé went on to thank her family for showing her how to "take risks, work hard, and live life on my own terms."
