How the Royal Family Celebrates Easter

1 Go to the Zoo

What better way to mark the day than to get up close not just with chicks and bunnies but with lots of other cute and fluffy animals? In 2014, William, Kate, and George were on their tour of New Zealand and Australia when Easter fell, and they spent the afternoon at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Prince George was introduced to the bilbies, while William and Kate petted koalas and dinky tree kangaroos.

2 Take a Mini Break

While European city breaks top the charts for Easter getaways, Harry opted for the far less obvious option of Transylvania in 2012. His father, Prince Charles, owns property in the Romanian province and is friends with Count Tibor Kalnoky, whom Harry stayed with. Harry flew on the local budget airline Wizz Air and went motorbiking in the hills with friends.

3 Attend Church

The queen is always in Windsor for Easter and without fail attends the matins service on the morning of Easter Sunday. She and Prince Philip are always joined by members of the family, usually including the Earl and Countess of Wessex. It's the perfect time to sport a Spring-inspired outfit and coordinating hat. Even when not at Windsor with the queen, the family still attends church. When William and Kate spent a quiet Easter in Anglesey in 2013, they went to a service at the local church of St. Cadwalader.

4 Enjoy Chocolate Again

The queen loves chocolate, but she gives it up every year for Lent — so after church has been taken care of, it's back to Windsor Castle for a spot of lunch and some delicious sweet treats whipped up by the palace kitchens. Her majesty's favorite? Chocolate biscuit cake.

5 Forget the Store-Bought Desserts

The tried and tested supermarket specials are all well and good, but where royal children are concerned, it's all about the specially made treats. To truly follow in royal footsteps when it comes to Easter eggs, it's all about whipping them up at home — just without the help of a royal pastry chef, unfortunately.

6 Try a Savory Dish

Eggs Drumkilbo was the queen mother's favorite recipe and is still enjoyed by the queen and Prince Charles today. An old-fashioned combination of egg mayonnaise and seafood cocktail, it is still served up in the Goring Hotel (where the queen mother was a regular), while the recipe is published in the book A Taste of Mey, which brings together some of her favorite recipes.

7 Book a Ski Holiday

After William was away for six weeks of helicopter training at the beginning of 2012, he and Kate were reunited on the slopes of Les Trois Vallées in the French Alps. The trip was a treat from Kate's parents, who were also there, along with Kate's sister, Pippa. The group spent lots of time on the slopes and flew home on EasyJet.

8 Head For the Scottish Highlands

There's no need to splash out on overseas jaunts when there are some beautiful options in the UK. Spring is the perfect time to visit the Highlands, and Charles and Camilla often stay in the grounds of Balmoral for Easter. It's where they spent their honeymoon after marrying over the Easter weekend in 2005. They spend their time walking, while Charles fishes and paints.

9 Gather For a Family Meal

After church, the queen always hosts lunch at Windsor Castle for the whole family, and she will request that her lamb be well-done, according to her former chef Darren McGrady. In 2011, just before their wedding, William and Kate spent Easter Sunday with the Middletons at home, enjoying a delicious Sunday lunch.

10 Ignore It Altogether

It's never been a significant date for Harry, who spent all of Easter Sunday up in the air in 2015. He was en route to Australia for a four-week secondment with Australian armed forces and landed in Darwin on Easter Monday.
