Kirk Cousins Says Being a Father of 2 Has Been Both a "Joy" and a "Challenge"

On the field, quarterback Kirk Cousins is a team player who's been a consistent force throughout his 11-year career in the NFL. Off the field, the Minnesota Vikings athlete is a father to two sons whom he shares with his wife, Julie Cousins. Kirk and his family, in part, are highlighted in the upcoming Netflix docuseries "Quarterback," which follows Cousins, along with fellow NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota, throughout the highs and lows of the 2022 football season.

According to People, Kirk met Julie in 2012 through a mutual friend, and the two dated for nearly two years before the QB proposed in November 2013. The couple tied the knot in June 2014 and have since welcomed their two boys, Cooper and Turner.

Kirk incorporates his Christian faith into parenting his children, explaining in a March 2023 interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, "Fatherhood has been a joy, it's been a challenge and it certainly takes a lot of energy! You know, when I leave you start a whole new chapter of work when you come home and it really gives me a picture of what my Heavenly Father is like, looking at me. For the first time I truly have a picture of maybe what it's like when I have to discipline my son or say 'no' or take him away from something that could hurt him. It paints a cool picture."

Cooper Cousins

The first of the Cousins kids was born on Sept. 29, 2017. As the NFL athlete's firstborn is still little, there isn't much information about him, other than he spends his childhood doing normal kid things. Cooper celebrated his fifth birthday in September 2022, with his mom sharing a special post on Instagram to celebrate the occasion. "Born on a Friday night before a MNF game, this boy doesn't flinch when he only gets to see Daddy for maybe 5 minutes today—since he's off to London," Julie wrote.

Turner Cousins

The youngest of the Cousins boys, Turner Cousins, was born on March 10, 2019. Kirk announced the good news on his Instagram, writing, "Turner Cousins! Welcome to the world, little buddy. Mom and baby are doing great, and Cooper is already loving his new role as a big brother!"

Turner turned 4 in March 2023, and according to his dad, he and his brother, Cooper, are always adding fun to the lives of their parents. The Vikings QB explained to the Christian Broadcasting Network, "When they experience things for the first time — big eyes and a big smile and I get so much joy out of seeing them experience that! I can't wait to take them to amusement parks or I can't wait for them to try food that I love and show them some much joy and so many unique experiences and opportunities ahead of you. I can't wait to expose them to really all that football has brought our family."
