From Conan Gray to Billie Eilish, All of Olivia Rodrigo's Celebrity Friends

The era of Olivia Rodrigo is back in full swing, and a spotlight has been put on her high-profile celebrity friendships. Since the success of her 2021 Grammy-winning album, "Sour," fans have eagerly anticipated a new release from the singer-songwriter. Rodrigo's second album, "Guts," dropped on Sept. 8, and it's since generated tons of buzz due to the singer's two summer singles, "Bad Idea Right?" and "Vampire."

Rodrigo revealed in a June 2023 interview with Billboard that the album reflects the growing pains of getting older, relationships, and finding yourself. "I made the bulk of this album during my 19th year on this earth. A year that, for me, was filled with lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness & good old fashioned teen angst," she explained. Fans of the "Good 4 U" singer have made their own conclusions about what, or perhaps whom, Rodrigo is addressing in the two singles, especially "Vampire," which many believe is about her friendship and alleged fallout with Taylor Swift.

Swift and Rodrigo had a well-established history together prior to the release of "Sour." In the past, the "Drivers License" singer called herself a serious Swift fan and even credited Swift as her biggest idol and inspiration, per People. Things between the two seemingly changed after Swift, producer Jack Antonoff, and St. Vincent received writing credits and a 50 percent share of the royalties for Rodrigo's hit single "Deja Vu," as it interpolated Swift's 2019 song "Cruel Summer," according Rolling Stone.

Fans picked up on the alleged fallout of the two after Rodrigo revealed to The New York Times that she didn't attend a single show in Swift's Eras Tour, which has subsequently sparked rumors that "Vampire"'s lyrics that mention an unnamed person being a "bloodsucker, fame f*cker" are about Swift. When asked if there was any truth to the speculation, Rodrigo told The Guardian in September 2023, "How do I answer this? I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I've never done that before in my career and probably won't. I think it's better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing." She continued, "I was very surprised when people thought that."

Rodrigo's friendship with Swift may be over, but the "Vampire" artist has a handful of celebrity friends in her circle. Read on to learn more about the singer's famous friends!

Conan Gray

Rodrigo and Gray were platonically linked back in March 2021, when Rodrigo posted a picture of the two on Instagram in honor of the release of "You All Over Me" from Taylor Swift's "Fearless: Taylor's Version." That same month, the "Bad Idea Right?" singer told Capital FM, "Conan's a friend of mine, and the guy who produces most of my music produces most of his. We're just pals and I think he's so brilliant."

Rodrigo and Gray haven't been shy about their friendship over the years. The two have gone to the Met Gala together, performed together, and attended concerts together. Touching on his friendship with Rodrigo, Gray told Rolling Stone in June 2022, "With Olivia, she's someone that I just adore. And it's always nice to have friends that you can depend on. [Fame] is a very confusing thing, and it's nice to have people that you can relate to and find comfort in."

Another close friend in Rodrigo's circle is Iris Apatow, daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann and sister of "Euphoria"'s Maude Apatow. While it's unknown when or how the two met, Rodrigo and Apatow are not only best friends but also roommates. During an appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show," Apatow explained how close their relationship is. "Well, we live together, so we do everything [together]. We have 'Sex and the City' movie nights. It just makes me happy," she said.

The duo's friendship is well-documented on social media, as both Rodrigo and Apatow frequently post pictures of their lives together, from "Twilight"-themed parties to parking-lot photo shoots. In March 2023, Charli D'Amelio posted a video on TikTok of Rodrigo and Apatow getting matching heart tattoos on their pinky fingers.

Billie Eilish

The "Everything I Wanted" singer and Rodrigo have been more low-key about their friendship in comparison to Rodrigo's friendships with Gray and Apatow, but nonetheless, the two have shown nothing but love for one another over the years. In July 2021, Eilish shared a series of photos on Instagram, one that featured her hugging Rodrigo with the caption, "this is where the real love is." Almost a year later, Eilish once again took their friendship to Instagram, this time with the addition of Apatow. The trio were pictured at Selena Gomez's 30th birthday party in August 2022 and looked as close as ever in a black-and-white portrait shot.

Madison Hu

Rodrigo's friendship with Hu goes back to their Disney Channel days. From 2016 to 2019, the pair starred in "Bizaardvark" as best friends who post funny songs and content on the internet. While some friendships fizzle out after work wraps, Rodrigo and Hu's only grew stronger. In a 2021 Elle cover story, the "Good 4 U" singer called Hu "literally my soulmate."

That wasn't the only time Rodrigo has gushed about Hu. In a live stream, she also called Hu her "best friend in the whole world." Along with being a frequent person featured on Rodrigo's Instagram, Hu also starred in the singer's "Sour Prom" concert film in July 2021.

Selena Gomez

Arguably, Gomez and Rodrigo have a lot in common. They both started off as actors on Disney Channel (Gomez starred in "Wizards of Waverly Place," while Rodrigo had the lead role in "Bizaardvark") and subsequently launched successful music careers. Though it's unknown when the two first connected, Rodrigo revealed in a 2021 interview with Variety that the "Single Soon" singer gave her some solid advice as she was breaking into the music scene. "I met Selena, and she was so kind. She talked to me a lot about prioritizing mental health, which I think is really important in this industry. All of us were in the limelight very young . . . That can be taxing on your psyche and can bring about all these weird issues."

In August 2022, Gomez shared a TikTok of her and younger sister Gracie singing along to Rodrigo's "Drivers License" during a concert for the singer's "Sour" tour. That same month, Rodrigo attended Gomez's 30th birthday party with Apatow and Eilish.

Addison Rae

Though Rodrigo's friendship with the TikTok star and beauty influencer is a bit more casual, the two garnered attention from fans after Rae shared a video of Rodrigo, Maddie Ziegler, and Devon Lee Carlson taking a pottery class together in July 2022. Months later in October 2022, Rae once again posted a picture of her and Rodrigo together on Instagram, writing "Liv laugh love" in the caption.

Tate McRae

Rodrigo and McRae have been friends for a "few years." In an October 2023 interview with "The New Hit List," Rodrigo dished on their friendship, saying, "I just always thought that she was the coolest and I really loved her music. She's so nice, and we just like really connected, and it's so awesome to have someone in this industry who I can talk to. She's just wonderful. The most genuine, kind person you'll ever meet."

Of whether they've ever been in the studio together, Rodrigo said, "You know, we haven't yet. We haven't even talked about it. Maybe I should talk about it with her. I think she's incredible, though, she inspires me. She's awesome."
