Philip and his longtime partner, Mimi O'Donnell, had three children together, Cooper, Tallulah, and Willa. He spoke enthusiastically about parenting in a 2010 interview with George Stroumboulopoulos, saying: "It's an amazing thing, this desire to hold onto that youth because you see it going. That's what's great about kids, though I have to say, everything that became old and kind of morose like holidays or birthdays or summertime, now is all great again. We just went through a Summer with our kids. It's an incredible thing. Remember Summer when you were a kid? You become an adult, and Summertime is work. All of a sudden, kids! It's like, oh, Summer! We're going to go the beach! It's pretty amazing — it's a beautiful thing. It isn't easy to love something as much as you love a child — it's like looking into the sun. It's intense."
