And then, well, suddenly Neil Patrick Harris was in his underwear. It's fine — it was totally just part of his epic Birdman spoof. But also, damn, NPH!
From Neil's underwear moment on, things really amped up. Patricia Arquette gave an interesting acceptance speech for best supporting actress. It ended on an empowering note about gender equality.
Obviously, everyone in the audience went wild, responding to Patricia with nothing but support.
Another incredible moment came during John Legend and Common's performance of "Glory."
No but really, the entire audience was moved. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.
