Here's What You Can Expect From Princess Charlotte's First Year
Prince William and Kate Middleton's second child arrived on May 2, 2015, delighting fans around the world with news that there was a brand-new princess in the royal family. Prince George's little sister was already following in his footsteps when she made her big debut outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London. Things got even cuter when her adorable first portrait arrived in June, giving the world its first glimpse of the brother and sister together. And who can forget the sweet pictures that came from her July 5 christening? What else can we expect from the baby girl? Read on to see the exciting milestones the royal family may share with the world, in the first 12 months of Princess Charlotte's life.
Official Visits and Tours
During William's first year, he traveled to New Zealand with his parents, and in Spring of 2014, George made the trip to Australia and New Zealand with his mom and dad. Though there's been no word yet from the palace, it's possible that Charlotte will do the same or at least make a few official appearances.
Holiday Portraits
Just before Christmas 2014, the palace shared three official photos of Prince George dressed in his finest festive attire. We can only hope they'll do the same in 2015 and include Princess Charlotte!
The Nanny Situation
William and Harry spent time with nannies growing up, one of whom was Jessie Webb, who reportedly came out of retirement to help Will and Kate with George after his birth. When George was about 7 months old, Will and Kate hired a full-time nanny, Maria Borrallo. The couple have yet to add another full-time nanny to the family, but it was reported that they have had extra help for the first few months of Charlotte's life.
Official First Birthday Portraits
The royal family shared the most adorable photos of George before his first birthday in 2014, and we can only hope they'll do the same before Charlotte turns 1 in May 2016.
The Christening
Like so many royal babies before her, Charlotte was christened shortly after her birth on July 5. She wore a replica of the same christening gown that was made for Queen Victoria's daughter Victoria and has been worn by most members of the royal family. The ceremony took place at St. Mary Magdalene's Church on Queen Elizabeth II's Sandringham estate, the same church where Princess Diana was baptized.
Official Portraits
Throughout the year, the royal family releases portraits of their children and Princess Charlotte's first came just a month after she was born. The photos, which were taken by Kate Middleton, included big brother Prince George and were obviously adorable.
The Hospital Photo Op
Following royal tradition, Charlotte was introduced to the public outside of the hospital where she was born. The smiley photo op on the steps of the Lindo Wing also took place after George's birth in 2013 as well as when William and his brother, Harry, were born.
The Birth Announcement
While news that Kate had given birth was first released on Twitter, it was followed with the traditional formal announcement placed outside of Buckingham Palace that revealed the day and time of the birth and the baby's gender. This is the same royal protocol that was followed after Prince George's arrival.
