"I know I'm going to sound completely crazy when I say this, but there was no formula to this show. We were literally just letting the cameras roll," she revealed. "Usually with competition shows, there's an audition, and then eliminating, and this and that. You know it's usually quite scheduled, but for this one, I'm just so happy that BET trusted me to literally let cameras roll, and edited it that way. I have a great, great team of people who are just as excited about this venture as much I am, and my partner Frank Gatson, we've been talking about putting together a girl group since Destiny's Child's last album and tour."
The show will follow Kelly's search for a new girl group, but one thing is clear: Making the Band, this is not. "When the opportunity came and I had time, I was just like, 'I'm so ready to get this project started,'" she continued. "I actually talked to different networks, and I think that I kind of freaked them out a little bit, because there was no formula to the whole idea. It's shot documentary-style, and I think they were reminded of a show that Puffy did, Making the Band, and I was, like, 'No, that's not what this is at all.' So, afterwards, BET wanted to be on board, and we created a partnership and it's been awesome. The filming has been awesome, the ladies who have come to audition have been awesome, and it's been a really great process. I'm very excited."
