The queen's youngest child didn't have as strong a military calling as his brothers and has been more interested in the arts — he entered a Royal Marines training program but left to pursue a career in theater and television. He worked as a production assistant for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Company on theater productions of Cats, Starlight Express, and The Phantom of the Opera and dated actress Ruthie Henshall for three years. Edward went on to set up a television production company called Ardent Productions that specialized in documentaries and dramas. The company was dissolved 16 years later in 2009, and Edward is now a full-time working member of the royal family.
When his father, Prince Philip, passes and when his brother Prince Charles is king, Edward will be the Duke of Edinburgh, and at the age of 53, he has already begun to take on many of his father's commitments as well as taking over his father's role in the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards.
Edward married Sophie Rhys-Jones after a six-year relationship in 1999, and they have two children: Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn. Edward is ninth in line to the throne.
