A Complete Recap of Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes's Relationship

In a joint interview with V magazine, the couple recalled how they met when they were both on tour with Austin Mahone. Cabello was still in Fifth Harmony at the time. "I remember I wanted to hang out with you, but you were always on the tour bus, just learning guitar," she said.

"Yeah, that was me. I didn't talk to anybody," Mendes said. "You were the only person that talked to me. Like, you were the only one of everybody on that tour who would say words to me. Actually, I think if we go into our DMs or something, there's a photo from the day we met, I think."

These two were just friends at this point . . . right? According to E! News, Mendes and Cabello were an item when they attended the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas, the spot where he infamously scared her on the red carpet.

Mendes and Cabello wrote "I Know What You Did Last Summer" backstage at one of Taylor Swift's "1989" shows. They went on to perform the hit on the 2016 People's Choice Awards.

In an interview with People, Mendes addressed the relationship rumors and said, "We're just really close friends." He continued by complimenting what a great writer she is and how she's a thrill to work with. But, "we're not dating — nor did we," Mendes said.

You weren't the only person blown away by the music video to Cabello's "Crying in the Club." Mendes took to Twitter to tweet the video with "speechless.. goosebumps all over. You're incredible."

While appearing on the "Zach Sang Show," Cabello addressed her relationship with Mendes. "I love Shawn. He's a real friend. I actually sent him my album before it even came out," she said.

Between the lyrics, beat, and hot music video, it's no wonder "Señorita" quickly became a hit song.

When a fan asked Mendes if he was dating Cabello, he denied it. But then the pair were spotted holding hands in LA.

Up until now, it had only been rumored that these two had a real relationship, but this was all the proof we needed. Mendes and Cabello were seen during a major PDA session in Miami Beach. If only that pool could talk . . .

It's pretty clear that everyone was waiting for a kiss during the sultry performance. Even celebrities were losing their minds as Mendes and Cabello got so close that their noses were touching. And, yet, no kiss on the big stage.

After two years of dating, Mendes and Cabello announced their split in November. In a joint statement, they wrote, "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever."

They continued: "We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward."

Four months after her breakup from Mendes, Cabello released the music video for her duet with Ed Sheeran titled "Bam Bam." Many fans speculated that the track was about Mendes. "I said I'd love you for life, but I just sold our house / We were kids at the start, I guess we're grown-ups now / Couldn't ever imagine even having doubts / But not everything works out," Cabello sings in the song.

During an interview with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe, Cabello discussed her split from Mendes, noting their priorities had shifted. She said, "I love Shawn . . . this song is mostly just about like, 'OK, how do I make a song that shows the cycles of love, and life' . . . Whatever it is that's going on in your life . . . hopefully, this can make you be like, 'It is that way now, but things are always taking crazy turns.'"

Mendes and Cabello appeared to rekindle their romance at Coachella in April 2023. The exes were spotted getting cozy at the music festival, and the following month, they were seen again during a series of outings around LA and NYC.

Still, it seems their romance was short-lived because by June 2023 Us Weekly reported that they called it quits once again. "Camila was the one who ultimately decided to end things," a source told the outlet, adding that Mendes "is very upset" that they couldn't make it work.
