For the first two years of their relationship, Brenda and Macaulay stayed relatively quiet when asked about each other. Brenda told Us Magazine in 2018, "I don't like to talk about my personal life, but everything's wonderful and I'm happy," and echoed a similar sentiment to Refinery29 the following year. However, in 2020, the couple sat down for Macaulay's Esquire profile and discussed their relationship in depth publicly for the first time.
Macaulay thought their relationship was too good to be true when they started dating. Now, they own a home. They have two cats, a fish, a Shiba Inu, and a parrot. She keeps a notebook by her bedside to fill with witty one-liners he says during the day. "People don't realize how incredibly kind and loyal and sweet and smart he is," Brenda said. "Truly what makes Mack so special is that he is so unapologetically Mack. He knows who he is, and he's 100 percent okay with that. And that to me is an incredibly sexy quality. He's worked really hard to be the person he is."
