Louis-Dreyfus announced her battle with breast cancer in September 2017 and a year later revealed that she was in remission. In a 2020 interview with People, Hall opened up about his mother's diagnosis and said, "It's a struggle to have that happen to your mom." However, he stayed relatively optimistic throughout her recovery. "I felt pretty lucky," he added. "Both just with the care she was able to receive and also the support from our family and friends and people reaching out to me and stuff. I think we all very much felt like we had a team, that we were not alone."
