Shortly after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on May 1, 2019, Turner and Jonas surprised fans when they got married in an impromptu wedding ceremony in Las Vegas. In front of friends like Diplo (who live streamed the entire event on Instagram) and singers Dan & Shay, the couple recited their vows and made their union official. Jonas later discussed details of the wedding to GQ in 2020, telling the publication, "We had to get legally married in the States, so we thought it'd be really fun to get all of our friends, invite them out, and do an impromptu wedding. And we actually had some people that I didn't really even know that well there."
One month later, in June 2019, the couple had a second, more formal wedding ceremony at the Chateau de Tourreau in Sarrians, France. Turner's "GOT" costar Maisie Williams served as her maid of honor, while Nick and Kevin Jonas were groomsmen for Joe.
