In a joint interview with V magazine, the couple recalled how they met when they were both on tour with Austin Mahone. Cabello was still in Fifth Harmony at the time. "I remember I wanted to hang out with you, but you were always on the tour bus, just learning guitar," she said.

"Yeah, that was me. I didn't talk to anybody," Mendes said. "You were the only person that talked to me. Like, you were the only one of everybody on that tour who would say words to me. Actually, I think if we go into our DMs or something, there's a photo from the day we met, I think."

After two years of dating, Mendes and Cabello announced their split in November. In a joint statement, they wrote, "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever."

They continued: "We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward."

12 2022: Camila Cabello Releases "Bam Bam" With Ed Sheeran

Four months after her breakup from Mendes, Cabello released the music video for her duet with Ed Sheeran titled "Bam Bam." Many fans speculated that the track was about Mendes. "I said I'd love you for life, but I just sold our house / We were kids at the start, I guess we're grown-ups now / Couldn't ever imagine even having doubts / But not everything works out," Cabello sings in the song.

During an interview with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe, Cabello discussed her split from Mendes, noting their priorities had shifted. She said, "I love Shawn . . . this song is mostly just about like, 'OK, how do I make a song that shows the cycles of love, and life' . . . Whatever it is that's going on in your life . . . hopefully, this can make you be like, 'It is that way now, but things are always taking crazy turns.'"

13 2023: Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello Briefly Reunite Before Splitting Up Again

Mendes and Cabello appeared to rekindle their romance at Coachella in April 2023. The exes were spotted getting cozy at the music festival, and the following month, they were seen again during a series of outings around LA and NYC.

Still, it seems their romance was short-lived because by June 2023 Us Weekly reported that they called it quits once again. "Camila was the one who ultimately decided to end things," a source told the outlet, adding that Mendes "is very upset" that they couldn't make it work.
