A Timeline of Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens's Love Story

Weeks before the pandemic lockdown began, Biles and Owens quietly slid into each other's DMs, but what's hard to believe is that the Houston Texans safety hadn't heard of Biles prior to their online connection. "I didn't know who she was," he told Texas Monthly last summer. "I just hadn't heard of her, and when I told her that, that's one of the things she liked." Owens added that being able to hang out before the pandemic strengthened their bond. "It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn't do anything," he said at the time. "So we used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other . . . Now I'm so thankful."

After a few months of going strong, Biles confirmed her relationship with Owens when she posted a cute photo of them cuddled up on Instagram. "It's just us," she captioned the post. A month later, Owens shared a photo of him and Biles sharing a cute embrace via Instagram with a caption that read: "Now you rockin with a real one."

The couple spent Christmas and New Year's Eve together, even sharing photos of themselves sporting matching pajamas. "Always good to spend Christmas with the fam," Owens captioned his post. Meanwhile, Biles captioned her photos with, "if santa ask, the elves did it! merry christmas 🤎"

Biles and Owens celebrated their one-year anniversary, along with the gymnast's 24th birthday, by vacationing together in Belize. "I love you more than I love Belize and that's a lot," Biles wrote on Instagram.

In an interview with Texas Monthly, Owens gushed about Biles, calling their relationship "a match made in heaven" before adding how Biles's work ethic is inspiring to watch. "Her energy is something," Owens told the outlet. "She's always happy, giggly, bubbly. If I've had a tough day at the office, I wouldn't want to take that home to her. Her personality, man . . . ."

A year after they began dating, Owens was finally able to witness Biles's greatness firsthand. "What an amazing experience," Owens wrote on Instagram after watching Biles compete for the first time at the US Gymnastics Championships. "First time getting to watch you compete in person and you didn't disappoint. It's so cool that I get to watch you do what you love, and be the best at that ‼️ I'm so proud of you my lil champ. Trials up next and you already know I'm there!! Love you baby."

When Biles pulled out from two Olympics events in July 2021 due to her mental health, Owens also had her back. "Imma ride with you through whatever baby," he wrote on Instagram. "Your strength and courage is unmatched and you inspire me more and more everyday SB. You always gone be my champ baby and don't you ever forget that, i love you so much and i can't wait till you come home and i get to see that beautiful smile again. You know I'm always here for you baby."

On Feb. 15, Owens and Biles announced their engagement. Alongside a carousel of romantic photos of Owens proposing to Biles in a gazebo, the most decorated American gymnast wrote, "THE EASIEST YES." She continued, "I can't wait to spend forever & ever with you, you're everything I dreamed of and more! let's get married FIANCÉ." Owens also celebrated the exciting news on his Instagram, writing, "Woke up this morning with a fiancée 💍❤️." Congrats to the happy couple!
