Asa Butterfield Is Almost, Probably the Next Spider-Man
With the announcement in February that Spider-Man is coming to the Marvel universe, we also knew one thing: the reign of Andrew Garfield as Spidey is effectively over. But with one door closed, another opens for a new generation of superheroes, and there have been several actors on the shortlist to play the next Spider-Man. Now comes a rumor that Asa Butterfield is the frontrunner, though the other actors on this list are still supposedly in consideration. Until we get an official announcement from Sony or Marvel, here are the young men who may be your next friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, starting in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.
Asa Butterfield
Butterfield, 18, who starred in 2013's Ender's Game, is reportedly the frontrunner for the role.
Timothee Chalamet
Chalamet, whom you may recognize from Homeland and Interstellar, may play the superhero.
Nat Wolff
The star of upcoming Paper Towns and last year's The Fault in Our Stars is one of the actors who could be the next Spidey.
Tom Holland
Holland, who broke out in 2012's The Impossible, is in the running.
Liam James
The Way Way Back star is also possibly on the list for Spider-Man.
