The Best Romantic Comedies of 2015

Brace yourself for Lake Bell with a British accent, but once you get past that, Man Up is the latest in a long tradition of irreverent, sweet, British romantic comedies. Simon Pegg is a man we all love but rarely see as a leading man, but you'll crush on him after seeing this.

This comedy may have just looked like a high school comedy trying to recapture the magic of Mean Girls. That's not totally inaccurate, but hiding among all those (beloved) teen movie clichés, there's a romantic comedy. The "duff" herself, Bianca (Mae Whitman) gets schooled on how not be a duff by popular jock Wes (Robbie Amell), and in the grand rom-com tradition, their initial hatred turns to attraction. Even if you think you've outgrown high school-set movies, the romance will suck you in.

It was one of the worst-reviewed movies of the year, but there is still something to be said for how cute Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone are together. There's dancing, flirty looks, and the kind of adorable chemistry that will probably make you want to see them team up again for another movie (or you know, in real life).

How could a romantic comedy with Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie be anything less than hilarious and delightful? It's the modern When Harry Met Sally, if you can imagine Harry and Sally having a lot more sex.

Disclaimer: this romantic comedy is not so original with its premise (a cute guy falls for the perfect girl, who is already engaged to a douche). However, the cute guy in question is played by Chris Evans, who is both incredibly sexy and rarely out of his Captain America uniform these days, and he's playing a screenwriter who's tasked to actually write a romantic comedy. Therefore, if you're a fan of the genre itself, this is kind of a meta, fun look.

It was fated that Amy Schumer's first big movie would be a gut-busting, memorable comedy, but I don't think anyone expected there to be such a satsifying love story at the center of it. Maybe it's so good because it's not a Hollywood romance — it's messy, imperfect, and there are challenges you never see in a big mainstream romantic comedy (non-devastating casual sex, a parent's death, actual relationship talks). It's real. And that's why it's so good.
