Why People Are Talking About D'Angelo's Powerful SNL Performance

D'Angelo and the Vanguard hit up Saturday Night Live this weekend for a pair of powerful performances. In protest of the Eric Garner decision, D'Angelo's bandmates and backup singers wore shirts that read "Black Lives Matter" and "I Can't Breathe." They sang hits from the recent Black Messiah album, "Really Love" and "The Charade," the latter a song with lyrics that reflect the current social and political struggle faced by African Americans: "All we wanted was a chance to talk, 'stead we only got outlined in chalk."
