Before season six of Game of Thrones kicks off, let's not forget that the fifth season concluded with a customary bloodbath. You may be used to the show scarring you for life, but even if you consider yourself jaded at this point, at least one of the horrific deaths must have gotten to you. Several main characters are killed off on the episode, and at least some of their deaths will likely come into play on the premiere. Take a look below to see who dies, in order from the least to most devastating death. Once you're done, see what else you need to remember from the last season.

6 Ser Meryn Trant

  • How is he killed? Arya uses a face from the Hall of Faces to transform herself into another person. (It's actually the face of the girl who she assists in killing by the fountain in the House of Black and White.) She gains an audience with the twisted Ser Meryn (who, you may recall, is on her list) by posing as a young prostitute, and once she's alone with him, she dons her own face again and stabs him repeatedly in the eyes. She slits his throat once she's sure he knows who she is and why she's killing him.
  • Is he definitely dead? Yes.
  • Level of devastation: Negative ten. This guy is the worst.

5 Myranda

  • How is she killed? Reek tosses her off the balcony at the castle after she threatens Sansa.
  • Is she definitely dead? Yep.
  • Level of devastation: Negative two. Her death signals that Reek is one step closer to becoming Theon again, which is actually great news.

4 Selyse Baratheon

  • How is she killed? Stannis's army finds her hanging from a rope in the woods. It's presumed that she's so overcome with guilt and sadness over Shireen's death that she takes her own life.
  • Is she definitely dead? Oh, yeah.
  • Level of devastation: Three. Selyse essentially digs her own grave by allowing her daughter to be burned at the stake, but she does attempt to stop the execution at the end. Her unexpected show of emotion makes her own death just a bit more upsetting.

3 Stannis Baratheon

  • How is he killed? His army is decimated by Bolton's men, but he manages to survive . . . until Brienne finds him. She informs him that she was a member of Renly Baratheon's Kingsguard and that she knows Stannis's face was behind the shadow that kills Renly. She then raises her sword and brings it down.
  • Is he definitely dead? It's very likely. We don't actually see Brienne's sword slash Stannis, but it's heavily implied, and the producers talk about Stannis being ready to die in the "After the Episode" featurette.
  • Level of devastation: Five. If Stannis hadn't green-lit the murder of his young daughter in the previous episode, his death would be a lot more upsetting. At this point, Stannis might actually be happier in the afterlife, but it's still sad that we won't get to see him anymore.

2 Myrcella Lannister

  • How is she killed? Right before Myrcella departs on the ship with Jaime, Ellaria Sand kisses her on the lips. At first, it just seems awkward, but once she has set sail, Myrcella gets a nosebleed and falls down. Poison!
  • Is she definitely dead? Yes. Though we don't actually see her die, the producers refer to poor Jaime as a "grieving father" on the "After the Episode" featurette.
  • Level of devastation: Seven. We never get to know Myrcella very well, but this death is particularly poignant because it occurs right after Myrcella tells Jaime that she knows he's her father, and that she's glad. It's his one moment of joy before she's taken from him. Sob.

1 Jon Snow

  • How is he killed? Members of his Night's Watch trick him into coming outside unguarded, where he finds the word "traitor" written, and his men turn on him one by one, stabbing him in the stomach. Olly is the last one, and even he appears to be incredibly upset before plunging his blade into Jon.
  • Is he definitely dead? Though there are theories that he may come back to life, Jon is dead for all intents and purposes right now.
  • Level of devastation: 10. This is the worst thing that's happened since the Red Wedding. Jon Snow is the saddest, sexiest guy in the Seven Kingdoms, and we're not even sure we buy his death, considering he seems to be actively promoting season six. Still, this is basically Ned Stark's beheading plus Robb Stark's murder times two.
