J.K. Rowling and Matthew Lewis Show Their Support For Casting of a Black Hermione

Ever since Harry Potter and the Cursed Child released the cast for Harry, Hermione, and Ron, fans have been going crazy on social media. While most of the feedback has been positive, there were a few fans who didn't understand why, for the first time, Hermione would be played by a black woman. Of course, Rowling, being the clever person that she is, quickly took to Twitter to clear up any confusion. In her frankly inspiring tweet, the bestselling author pointed out that she never once specified Hermione's race in the books, just that she had "brown eyes, frizzy hair and [was] very clever."

Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the series, also showed his support by congratulating Noma Dumezweni on her new role and pointing out that Neville's movie portrayal differed from the books as well.
