Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker Video

Another Creepy Look at Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker — and This Time, He's All Made Up

This week, we got our first look at Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, but it wasn't quite what we expected. The simple shot, captioned "Arthur," featured Phoenix with disheveled hair and plainclothes, leering at the camera. Knowing that the new film will be an origin story, it all makes sense, but we couldn't help but pine for a look at the Joker as we know (and fear) him. Luckily, director Todd Phillips has given us a part two in the form of an unsettling new clip.

In the short video, which Phillips posted on Instagram, Phoenix aka Arthur stands there while Guess Who's "Laughing" plays in the background. As we pull in, flashes of clown footage project onto his face. Finally, just when we get close enough to be very uncomfortable, we get our payoff: the grease-painted nightmare, grinning in all his glory. Watch the clip yourself, and don't feel too bad if you have to close the window halfway through.
