Nicole Kidman Hints That Big Little Lies Season 2 Is Going to Happen: "We're Trying"

Fresh off her Emmy win for Big Little Lies, Nicole Kidman spoke at an event we attended in San Francisco on Tuesday night to support Futures Without Violence, an organization that works to end violence against women and children around the world. Kidman shared how much the HBO series meant to her, reiterating the powerful message from her Emmy acceptance speech that shows like this help shine a light on the "insidious disease" that is domestic abuse. She also hinted that a second season of Big Little Lies may be in the works.

"There's definitely incredible ways forward [for survivors of domestic violence]," she said at the event. "You want to feel you have a future, which I also hope with Big Little Lies, part of the thing we're interested in if we do a season two is the healing, is the future, because that's a lovely thing to be able to explore."

When asked point blank whether there will be a second season, Nicole said, "I would love to continue on and show these women's lives. It's fantastic being able to have these characters be embraced in this way." But she noted that it's very important that they "deliver a series of a high caliber" and that they don't want to jump into it and disappoint people. After explaining some of the hurdles they're facing, including how busy all the actors and actresses from the first season are with other projects, she said, "We're trying." She also said that they are "meeting and talking" and that writer David E. Kelley is on board. Most importantly, she and costar and coproducer Reese Witherspoon are game. "Reese and I [are] traveling all over the world right now, but when we set our minds to something, look out!"
