The ending of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may go down in history as one of the franchise's bleakest (yet hopeful) moments — but it was all about to go differently. As Entertainment Weekly revealed on Tuesday, the writers originally had Jyn and Cassian escaping Scarif along with Director Krennic. Krennic would have made it all the way to the Star Destroyer to report back to Darth Vader. "He's all beat up, his cape's all torn up and stuff, and he thinks he has survived," said screenwriter Gary Whitta. "Vader kills him for his failure."
That's right — straight-up murders him. This makes a lot of sense, but we're relieved the writers went a different way with it.
