Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift's New Video Includes a Nice Nod to Their First Collaboration

During the 2022 Brit Awards on Feb. 8, Ed Sheeran announced that he's releasing a new song with old pal Taylor Swift that'll drop this Friday. The four-time Grammy-winning artist made it official the next day when he tweeted the exciting news. "'The Joker And The Queen' featuring my good friend @taylorswift13 is out this Friday," he wrote on Feb. 9. "The Joker and the Queen" was featured on Sheeran's latest album, "=," sans Swift.

Sheeran shared a clip of the new video on Instagram, with an adorable caption that read "'The Joker and the Queen' featuring @taylorswift is out right now. Me and Taylor first met and wrote + recorded our first song together in 2012, ten years ago now, I'm so so honoured to have her on this song. Not only is she the best singer/songwriter in the world but she's also a very close friend, I'm very lucky to have her in my life. For the music video we got the kids from our song 'Everything Has Changed,' all grown up and off to college now ! Hope you love the song, and the video, and have a great week x."

The new tune isn't a huge surprise for fans as they've been speculating that something's been cooking for a while now. First, they pointed out that Swift is named on the track's credit list for "The Joker and the Queen" official lyric video on YouTube. In October 2021, they even spotted a Swift patch on the back of Sheeran's jacket in his "Overpass Graffiti" video. A month later, Swift dropped another hint when she carved an equal sign into a cake in her "I Bet You Think About Me" video.

"Everything Has Changed" marked Swift and Sheeran's first duet in 2012, followed by 2021's "Run," which was featured as one of the vault tracks on Swift's "Red (Taylor's Version)."
