Netflix's new Australian drama is making its way to the United States, and based on the trailer alone, this is the type of series you could get lost in.

Eight episodes of "Heartbreak High," a reboot of the original 1994 series, are set to release next month, perfectly encapsulating the dreamy, prismacolor aesthetic made popular by shows like "Euphoria" while maintaining an energy all its own. The series centers on the discovery of a map that details all of the hookups in the school, leaving its creator to handle the consequences. The plot harkens back to shows like "Sex Education," but its sense of humor and unique characters promise to give viewers something they haven't seen before.

The story of "Heartbreak High" kicks off when a secret map is discovered, listing everyone's hookups in excruciating detail. Amerie, its creator, is quickly made an outcast, as the school tries to take action by enforcing a dreaded "sexual literacy" program to combat the sexuality of its students. The show follows Amerie as she attempts to redeem herself and her reputation, save her old friendships, and navigate love (and heartbreak) herself.

The star of "Heartbreak High," Amerie, is a confident rebel type played by Ayesha Madon. Her two new friends, Quinni, who's neurodivergent and honest to a fault, and Darren, who's described as "super-dooper gay," are played by Chloe Hayden and James Majoos. Together, Netflix describes them as "THE HEART, THE BRAINS, and THE CLITORIS" (respectively).
