7 Movies to Watch If You Loved Me Before You

This 2002 gem features Mandy Moore and Shane West as two small-town teens who are drawn to each other, despite running in very different circles. The film is adapted from Nicholas Sparks's book of the same name, and by the time Jamie (Moore) tells Landon (West) not to fall in love with her, you'll be hooked. (Spoiler alert, Jamie has leukemia and it's devastating.) Like Me Before You, A Walk to Remember illustrates the struggle of falling for someone whom you know you can't spend the rest of your life with.

When the wealthy Kelley (Chris Klein) literally crashes into a diner, he enters into an epic (OK, maybe that's a strong word for this 2000 drama) love triangle. He falls for Samantha (Leelee Sobieski, at the top of her game), but she's been dating Jasper (Josh Hartnett) for years. This could be a cut-and-dry romance, but Samantha has an illness that means she only has a few months to live.

Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess play two people who keep running into each other at different points in their lives. Think of it like a more dramatic When Harry Met Sally, only with British people. If you put a seashell to your ear, you can still hear the faint sounds of me silently weeping during this film.

You had to know The Notebook would be in here, right? It's a classic romance, and it never fails to make us tear up. Beyond that, though, it's the tender story of two people (Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams) who can't help but love each other, no matter how much the other person scares and challenges them. Sounds a bit like Lou and Will, eh?

Jenny (Ali MacGraw) and Oliver (Ryan O'Neal) love each other, but is it enough to overcome their enormous class differences? He's born into money, she's working class, and they have to work to create a life that's balanced for both of them. Just when things are going well, tragedy strikes. This 1970 Oscar winner is basically the precursor to all the other movies on here, so you may as well give it a whirl.

After a chance meeting at the DMV, Sara (Charlize Theron) asks Nelson (Keanu Reeves) to move in with her. While it seems crazy at first, Nelson gives in when he realizes he really has nothing to lose. Just as he's falling madly in love with her, he finds out she's terminally ill. (This isn't a spoiler — it's in the trailer.) The movie tells the story of how the two make the most of their time together, much like Lou and Will.

The Fault in Our Stars is the ultimate companion piece to Me Before You. The subjects are a little younger, but the balance of drama with humorous overtones is very similar — not to mention that both are based on hit books and have great soundtracks. If you haven't watched cancer support group members Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) fall in love, you need to get on it.
