Game of Thrones: Here's Where Season 4 Leaves Off
A lot of insane things happen on Game of Thrones' fourth season, but it's been a long time since that last new episode aired. Season five is beginning on Sunday, so now is the time for a refresher course on where everyone ends up. After all, not all of them make it out of the fourth season alive. Take a look below to get the status on Jon, Tyrion, Arya, and the rest of the characters!
Daenerys
Status: Alive
Daenerys is having trouble maintaining control over her new lands, and she sends Jorah away after learning he is initially sent to spy on her. She also finds out that Drogon, her favorite, has scorched a small child to death and she decides she has no choice but to lock her "children" away. Drogon never returns, and he's still at large.
Cersei
Status: Alive
Cersei is still reeling from the death of her son and intent on punishing Tyrion for his killing — even though he didn't do it. Before Tywin is murdered, Cersei confirms to her father that she's been having an incestuous relationship with Jaime. She then goes to her brother's side and tells him that she chooses him.
Jaime
Status: Alive
Jaime helps Tyrion escape, though he presumably didn't anticipate his brother would commit a double murder before he takes off.
Shae
Status: Dead
Once Tyrion escapes his prison, he goes to find his father, but instead, he encounters Shae in Tywin's bed. Heartbroken over her betrayal during his trial and now with his father, Tyrion murders Shae.
Tywin
Status: Dead
Tyrion finally stands up to his father by shooting him dead while Tywin is in the bathroom. It's not a dignified death.
Tyrion
Status: Alive
Tyrion escapes the castle after killing his father and Shae. Lord Varys puts him in a barrel, then hops up next to him on a ship headed out to sea.
Sansa
Status: Alive
Sansa has turned a new leaf. After witnessing Littlefinger murder her aunt Lysa, she protects him when called in for questioning by the tribunal. When Littlefinger asks her why she lies for him, she tells him she doesn't know what she would do without him, and that she knows what he wants, acknowledging his romantic intent. Later, she debuts a new look with darker hair and clothes.
Sam
Status: Alive
Sam survives the battle with the Wildlings and protects Gilly, who is pretty much his girlfriend now.
Ygritte
Status: Dead
When the Wildlings storm the Wall, Ygritte is killed in the ensuing battle. She dies in Jon's arms, and he carries her body North of the Wall to set it on fire for a proper burial.
Jon
Status: Alive
Jon survives the battle, but is grief-stricken now that his first love is dead.
Stannis
Status: Alive
Stannis and his army show up at the Wall, assisting the Watchers in defeating the Wildlings. Things get chilly when Mance Rayder refuses to kneel to Stannis, who believes himself to be the one true king.
Brienne of Tarth
Status: Alive
Brienne finally finds Arya, who is being held by The Hound. They get into a fight over who gets to keep her, and The Hound beats the crap out of Brienne, but she survives.
The Hound
Status: Likely dead
The Hound doesn't fare as well as Brienne. After the epic fight, he is seemingly fatally wounded. Arya has the chance to put him out of his misery, but despite the friendship they've forged, she leaves him to die on his own.
Arya
Status: Alive
After leaving The Hound to die, Arya uses the coin given to her by Jaqen H'ghar (way back in the day) and earns passage to Braavos.
Bran
Status: Alive
Bran's group is attacked by a bunch of wights, but he makes it into a creepy cave with the help of the Children of the Forest. There, he finds an old man who embodies the Three-Eyed Raven. The man tells Bran that he will never walk again, but he will fly. Poor Jojen Reed is killed by the wights.
Margaery
Status: Alive
Margaery is engaged to wed Tommen, who is currently the king, despite their awkward age difference.
Theon
Status: Alive
Theon's mental state is utterly destroyed. He is now Reek, henchman to the twisted Ramsay.
