Brush Up on the New Characters Coming to Game of Thrones

One of our favorite things to do while Game of Thrones is off the air is, well, talk about Game of Thrones. We already know a lot about the sixth season, including who is joining the cast. Here's a handy-dandy breakdown of everyone who has joined the cast for the upcoming season, including the characters who have already appeared in the books.

The Three-Eyed Raven, played by Max von Sydow

Who is the actor? He's a two-time Oscar nominee who you might recognize from movies like Minority Report, Shutter Island, and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Who is he playing? The Three-Eyed Raven is the strange beast who Bran sees in his dreams, then finally encounters at the end of season four. Struan Rodger played the character the first time, but now von Sydow will be taking over.

Euron Greyjoy, played by Pilou Asbaek

Who is the actor? Danish actor Asbaek has been in a number of movies from Denmark and Sweden, in addition to starring as Paolo on The Borgias. He also appeared in 2014's Lucy, and he's playing Pontius Pilate in the upcoming remake of Ben-Hur.
Who is he playing? Euron is Theon and Yara's uncle and the younger brother of Balon. He's a skilled warrior who captains the Silence, a ship named so because most of its crew have had their tongues cut out by Euron.

Dickon Tarly, played by Freddie Stroma

Who is the actor? Like several other Game of Thrones cast members, heartthrob Stroma got his start in a Harry Potter movie. He has since gone on to star on Lifetime's hit series UnREAL.
Who is he playing? Stroma has been cast as Dickon Tarly, Samwell's brother and the heir to Horn Hill.

Ian McShane in a Mystery Role

Who is the actor? McShane is a legendary British actor whose résumé stretches all the way back to 1965. More recently, he played Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, turned up as a murderous Santa on American Horror Story: Asylum, and has a recurring role on Ray Donovan.
Who is he playing? His role hasn't been announced, but there are a number of theories.

Izembaro, probably played by Richard E. Grant

Who is the actor? You may recognize Grant as Simon Bricker from Downton Abbey or as the lecherous Jasper from Girls.
Who is he playing? While it hasn't been officially confirmed, it's rumored that Grant is playing the leader of a group of performers who put on a play called The Bloody Hand.

The Bloody Hand's Version of Cersei, played by Essie Davis

Who is the actress? Davis recently starred in the 2014 horror hit The Babadook.
Who is she playing? Essie Davis has joined the cast as a version of Cersei in the play, which "is meant to mirror the world of Westeros."

Randyll Tarly, played by James Faulkner

Who is the actor? You may recognize Faulkner as pervy Uncle Geoffrey from the Bridget Jones movies or Downton Abbey's Lord Sinderby.
Who is he playing? Faulkner has joined the cast as Sam's father, Randyll Tarly.

High Priestess Kinvara, played by Melanie Liburd

Who is the actress? Liburd has been on Dracula and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Who is he playing? The British actress has been cast as a Red Priestess. Her character would be different that Melisandre, the show's current reigning Red Priestess.

Khal Moro, played by Joe Naufahu

Who is the actor? Naufahu appeared on the series Go Girls and he'll be in the upcoming movie Ghost in the Shell.
Who is he playing? Khal Moro appears in the book A Game of Thrones, then is mentioned in A Feast for Crows He's an ally of Daenerys Targaryen.

Melissa Florent, played by Samantha Spiro

Who is the actor? Born in England, Spiro has starred in a number of movies, incluing From Hell, and she'll appear with Emilia Clarke in the upcoming movie Me Before You.
Who is she playing? Melissa Florent is Sam's mother. She is mentioned in A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast For Crows, as Sam tells Jon Snow that they could send Gilly and her child to Melissa to keep them safe. On screen, Sam has talked about her in past seasons of the show, but this is the first time we'll get to meet her.

Talla Tarly, played by Rebecca Benson

Who is the actor? Benson is primarily a stage actress, and she appeared in a small role in 2015's Macbeth.
Who is she playing? Talla is Sam's sister, and she's mentioned in A Storm of Swords. We'll get to meet her this season!

Smalljon Umber, played by Dean S. Jagger

Who is the actor? Jagger has starred in a handful of movie, such as The Paddy Lincoln Gang and Travellers.
Who is he playing? Umber appears as part of Robb Stark's guard in A Game of Thrones and A Storm of Swords. He's the son of Lord Greatjohn Umber and the heir to the Last Hearth. In the books, he actually dies during the massacre at the Red Wedding. It's unclear how he'll factor into the TV series.
