Gremlins may not be your typical holiday horror story, but Billy (Zach Galligan) does receive his new pet as a Christmas present. It's only later, when Billy stops following the three rules that Gizmo came with, that things start to get scary. For the uninformed, the rules that absolutely must be followed for anyone who comes into possession of a mogwai are as follows: they cannot be exposed to sunlight, they must not get wet, and you cannot feed them after dark.
