There's no better place to find up-to-date and trending Halloween costume ideas than your TV. If you think about the nostalgic '80s excellence of Stranger Things or the endless complexities of the sixth season of Game of Thrones, it's easy to see how your favorite shows could yield truly smashing Halloween costumes. But how will you ever choose? Who will you be? To get your brain excited, we're shouting out some of the most iconic TV characters of the past year.

Eleven From Stranger Things

What to wear: If you're not planning on shaving your head (pause and think about how much time it'll save you in the morning before deciding), get yourself some kind of flesh-colored skull cap or a bad blond wig. Then, find a high-necked baby-pink dress with a white collar, a blue jacket, striped knee socks, white Converse, and a chunky black watch. As a bonus, dribble some fake blood out of your nose and carry around an empty box of Eggo waffles.
How to act: Since Eleven barely speaks throughout the series, you're off the hook for having to say anything out loud until Nov. 1. Practice staring intently and trying to move things with your brain (and be sure to let us know if you succeed).

What to wear: You can buy a gray nun's costume, or just throw on a long-sleeved gray dress and wrap a gray scarf around your head in the same way she does. To add the finishing touches, wrap a light-colored rope around your waist and carry around a thick book and a bell.
How to act: Strict and demoralizing. Look down on anyone who's having fun and scream out, "SHAME!" at random intervals throughout the night while ringing your bell.

How to act: Negan treats everything he does as if he's center stage, in the midst of a performance. He's simultaneously charismatic and terrifying.

How to act: Like you're on the hunt. Sam is usually more cautious and more of a planner. Dean acts now and thinks later.

What to wear: Barb's role in Stranger Things might not be the most robust, but her wardrobe certainly is. Once you've figured out a way to get her short red hairstyle, get a plaid shirt with as many ruffles as possible, high-waisted light-wash (mom) jeans, a thin watch, and some Sally Jessy Raphael glasses. Feel free to tote around a fake notebook or binder.
How to act: A little bit aloof and uncomfortable in social situations, Barb acts a bit like Nancy's mom throughout the show. Stay away from any pools, and refuse any and all offers of beer, especially if someone asks you to shotgun it.

How to act: The Waif is the WORST. She's rude as hell and will betray you at any moment. For instance, if one of your friends asks you to get them a drink, do so, but before you to hand it over to them, chug the whole thing while looking them dead in the eye, and then shoot them your meanest smile. Also, only refer to your friends and family as "the girl" or "the boy." They'll really enjoy that, we promise.

What to wear: Ezekiel hasn't made his big arrival on the show yet, but if you're a fan of the comic books or you watched the season seven trailer, you know that not only is he nearly here, but his look is also pretty iconic. If you want to get a head start on the character, get yourself: gray hair, a long coat, fingerless leather gloves, a shirt with a fun print on it, a wooden staff, combat boots, and a tiger stuffed animal (in honor of Ezekiel's pet tiger, Shiva).
How to act: Project an eccentric and flamboyant attitude. Try and force your friends and loved ones to refer to you as "King."

What to wear: Joyce has a more low-key '80s mom look than the rest of the parents on the show, so all you'll really need is a thin dark jacket, a striped shirt or chunky turtleneck sweater, and flared jeans with a shaggy brown bob hairstyle. If you really want to hammer home the fact you're dressing up as her, consider bringing a rubber axe or a piece of cardboard painted with the alphabet out with you. You could even go one step further and wrap part of your body in colorful Christmas lights.
How to act: Tense. Very, very tense. To really nail your portrayal of Joyce, walk around whatever Halloween party you're attending while yelling, "WILL!" and "Where's my boy?! Find my boy!" over and over again.
