8 Specific Ways Meredith Is the Worst Person on Grey's Anatomy

It's true that Meredith has sisters turning up like bad pennies, and she just gets more annoyed with every new half-sibling reveal. Lexie first arrives in season four, and Meredith outright rejects her. Meredith eventually comes around to Lexie, only to have her heart hardened when she dies. So, when Maggie shows up with more shared DNA, Meredith is cold. It takes Derek's nudging to melt Meredith into a begrudging compliance. None of this compares to her robbing her sisters-in-law of the chance to say goodbye to Derek as he lies on his deathbed. Amelia never forgives Meredith, and frankly, it doesn't seem like Meredith cares very much.

Don't turn to Meredith for warm and fuzzies. She'll quickly remind you that she's not for all that mushy stuff, she's "dark and twisty." Even when sh*t gets real, Meredith won't give over to sentimentality. Remember when Reed the intern gets shot in the season six finale? April was sad, mourning her friend, and Meredith essentially told her to "suck it up." She hated Callie because of George, she hated Riggs for Owen, and she is a total brat to Amelia — always.

Working moms are badass, let's be clear. But, thanks to the anemic parenting standards of primetime television, Meredith is actually never, ever around her children. She's operating all night, drinking at Joe's across the street, and skulking around in the parking lot with Riggs, and it's always dark out. Who's watching her children? And why is the only glimpse we get of their existence a shot of her picking up their toys from the living room floor?

We get it, Mer, your life sucks. She's dodged a ton of calamities, defied death and had a lot of bad stuff happen to her. And she's certainly not afraid to remind us, all the time. Actual quote from Meredith to Alex in an earlier season: "I feel like one of those people who are so freaking miserable, that they can't be around normal people. Like I'll infect the happy people."

Meredith is notoriously involved with Derek while he is married to Addison, and you also probably remember her telling Derek, "Pick me. Choose me. Love me." And while this may seem romantic, it's really a little too assertive for a woman who's sleeping with someone else's husband. Fast forward to her fling with Riggs in the current season. It's all on her terms, and we guess it's just luck that Riggs is so easy-going.

Meredith and Cristina may have declared each other their "person," and that seems like ultimate friendship goals. But things weren't always so great between the two, and there were some ugly moments in which Meredith was jealous and petty with her person over some 3D printer action. She has been an incredible friend to Alex; however, she certainly isn't afraid to decide what's best for him. Snitching to Bailey this season is only one example.

Sometimes Meredith doesn't just blur the lines between right and wrong — sometimes she completely erases them. Case in point: tampering with the Alzheimer's trial to ensure Adele Webber gets the medicine. You took an oath, Meredith.

It seems like Meredith just hates people. She consistently pushes folks away when she doesn't want to deal with them (think back to her leaving for an entire year after Derek died), and then sucks them in when she does. Meredith does things solely in her own best interest. The whole Riggs-Maggie triangle is proof enough of that.
