17 Movies That We're Excited to See in 2017

This year is busting with thrilling sequels, reboots, and straight-up original movies. Since so many trailers for 2017 movies have been released, we got to thinking about which movies we're the most excited to see in the coming year. It was only after reviewing our list that we realized Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is in no fewer than three of these films. It's not our fault that he's the busiest actor in the world! Take a look for all the sleek, sexy, and hotly anticipated films.

The Lego Batman Movie
Warner Bros.

The Lego Batman Movie

If you counted The Lego Movie as one of your favorite films of 2014 (spoiler alert — I did), then you're probably already very excited about this spinoff. Will Arnett's self-obsessed Batman is the focus this time around, and he's getting a familiar sidekick: Robin (Michael Cera)! Rosario Dawson, Zach Galifianakis, Jenny Slate, and Mariah Carey are also joining the party.

Fifty Shades Darker

Christian (Jamie Dornan) and Ana (Dakota Johnson) are back, and in case you worried they would stay broken up after the first movie, they're already back together in the trailer. We're not complaining; not only does the second movie look way steamier than the first, but there are also some serious developments in the story! Christian has a stalker, Ana has a creepy boss, and we get to see Kim Basinger as Elena — get hyped.

Logan

Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine for his final standalone film. Based on the critically beloved comic series Old Man Logan, the movie takes place years in the future, when most of the mutant population has been wiped out, and even Wolverine's healing powers are beginning to fade.

Kong: Skull Island
Warner Bros.

Kong: Skull Island

Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston are about to encounter one of cinema's most iconic beasts. The reboot, which takes place in the '70s, follows a team of explorers who stumble upon King Kong on his island. Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman are costarring, and you can get a good peek at the movie in its Comic-Con trailer.

Beauty and the Beast
Disney

Beauty and the Beast

Sigh. Can you even look at this picture without humming the classic title tune to yourself? Emma Watson as Belle is a casting choice straight out of our dreams, and the live-action movie is packed with familiar faces — though they may appear as clocks, candlesticks, and more. Dan Stevens is the already-controversial Beast, Luke Evans is Gaston, and Kevin Kline is Maurice!

06
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Warner Bros.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

After watching the trailer and seeing the first pictures of Charlie Hunnam in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, we officially need to see more of this movie. Guy Ritchie is at the helm of the medieval action flick, though you don't really need much motivation to see it past the words "Charlie Hunnam." OK, how about "Jude Law"?

Fast 8

Nothing makes us more excited to see a film than a little bit of drama. Stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Vin Diesel drummed up some attention earlier this year from an on-set disagreement, and though they buried the hatchet, we're wondering if they'll take their frustrations out on the big screen. Also, Charlize Theron joined the crew, so . . . we're in.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Marvel

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and the whole gang are returning for the follow-up to 2014's Summer smash. This time, Peter Quill is on the hunt for his father, played by — are you ready for this? — Kurt Russell. It might be the perfect movie. The trailer will even get you excited for the new soundtrack!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Just when you thought you were over these movies, a new one pops up and looks amazing. Johnny Depp is returning as the swashbuckling Jack Sparrow, who will be squaring off against the ghostly Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem). We're also getting some fresh blood in the form of young heroes Henry (Brenton Thwaites) and Carina (Kaya Scodelario).

Wonder Woman

Next year is the year Wonder Woman shall save us all! After making her debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal Gadot will rock us all in her solo film. The trailer alone is already 10 times more thrilling than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so we're in good shape.

Spider-Man: Homecoming
Marvel

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Ah, another hero who made their debut in 2016! Tom Holland will reprise his role as the young Peter Parker for his standalone film. Michael Keaton has gone to the dark side to play Vulture, while Zendaya and Marisa Tomei are also starring. Our Spidey senses are tingling!

Thor: Ragnarok
Marvel

Thor: Ragnarok

Meanwhile, onto someone who wasn't in Captain America: Civil War. Though his absence was explained in a funny video from Comic-Con, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) owes us some screentime. We have some details about the movie, and if you saw Doctor Strange, you got a peek at what's to come for Thor and Loki.

Justice League

This is it. After introducing us to several of the key players, DC Comics is rounding up its heroes for Justice League. Not only are we positive we'll be even more in love with Gal Gadot after Wonder Woman's release, but Jason Momoa will be here as Aquaman, which means we're here too.

Star Wars: Episode VIII
Disney

Star Wars: Episode VIII

We're still waiting on a lot of the details for the next Star Wars installment, but we do already know about a few cameos! Plotwise, the story will pick up right where Episode VII leaves off, so we won't miss a second of Rey's action-packed story.

Jumanji

Kevin Hart and The Rock have been bro-ing out so hard on the set of Jumanji. The new movie is a "continuation" of the Robin Williams classic, but as you can see, a lot has changed.

Pitch Perfect 3

Pitch Perfect 3 has already changed directors and release dates, but we're hoping it'll be worth the wait. Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Anna Camp, and Brittany Snow are all returning! Given that the three-quel is coming out during the holiday season, would an a cappella Christmas carol be too much to ask for?
