Starring Gene Kelly and the late, great Debbie Reynolds, Singin' in the Rain is La La Land for the '20s. The 1952 classic follows silent-film star Don Lockwood (Kelly), who quickly becomes enamored with spunky, aspiring star Kathy Selden (Reynolds). After his jealous costar, Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen), gets Kathy fired from a gig, Lockwood finds her a job at his Hollywood studio. All is going well until a rival studio releases the first "talkie." After an attempt to produce their own talking film goes hilariously awry, the group pitches a new idea: a musical! The only problem is that his costar Lina can't sing. The solution? Swap in Kathy's voice without Lina's knowledge. Obviously, all hell breaks loose, but in an incredibly charming way.
The film is ranked No. 1 on AFI's Greatest Movie Musicals chart and No. 5 on Greatest Movies of All Time. Still need convincing?
