8 Cringeworthy MTV Shows From the 2000s That We'd Totally Binge on Now

Kids these days will never fully understand the joys of the 2000s. The music was bumpin' ("In Da Club" was basically always on repeat), the fashion choices were gloriously questionable (Uggs and denim miniskirts, anyone?), and the TV shows most certainly followed suit. MTV debuted quite the array of shows in the 2000s that kind of make us cringe nowadays but still fill us with nostalgia regardless. Let's take a trip down memory lane and relive the most entertaining ones, shall we?

01
Date My Mom

Date My Mom

The twisted person who came up with the concept of this show is secretly my hero. Contestants had to pick a future bae but not until after the contender went on a date with their mom, who usually ended up revealing embarrassing things about their son or daughter. Date My Mom was definitely comparable to a car crash: horrific, but I just couldn't seem to tear my eyes away.

02
Room Raiders

Room Raiders

To refresh your memory, this gem of a show involved singles raiding the rooms of three possible love interests and then picking one to go on a date with after uncovering the (often strange) contents of their rooms. Anyone else remember that time 17-year-old Zac Efron made a cameo on the show? Best. Episode. Ever.

03
Next

Next

Oh, Next, how I love thee. This show had the tendency to get pretty savage, with some people blurting out "next" before the poor contestants could even introduce themselves. My personal favorite part of the show? Seeing the three hilariously random bullet points that popped up on the screen to describe each contestant as they stepped off the bus.

04
Parental Control

Parental Control

I'm ashamed to admit the amount of hours I spent watching this show when I was younger. Parental Control starred parents playing matchmaker for their children because they couldn't stand their significant others. The show was personally my worst nightmare, but I LIVED for that dramatic pause before the contestants revealed their final choice.

05
Dismissed

Dismissed

Yet another hilariously savage dating show, Dismissed featured a person simultaneously taking two others on a date and then deciding a winner at the end. Three people, one date, and enough cringeworthy moments to last a lifetime. Sounds like a recipe for success to me!

06
Paris Hilton's My New BFF

Paris Hilton's My New BFF

Did you forget about this gem of a show? Don't worry, you're not the only one. It's probably because it only aired for one year. But when you have an entire show dedicated to people who are actually competing to be friends with Paris Hilton, what more can you expect?

07

Jackass

Jackass always supplied plenty of laughs (and an undying crush on Johnny Knoxville). But at the end of the day, it focused on absurd pranks, many of which involved the dudes hurting each other's private parts in some strange way. Cringe central.

08
TailDaters

TailDaters

This short-lived series followed singles as they went on dates while their friends and family members watched it all — and offered up their funny commentary — from a stakeout bus. I secretly always wanted to be on TailDaters, but strictly from the spying side of things.
