13 Times Outlander's Jamie and Claire Proved They'd (Literally) Die For Each Other

Season three of Outlander has seen Jamie and Claire's relationship a bit stilted — at least, initially, when they first reunite. They've spent 20 years apart, experiencing failed marriages, children, loss, and trauma and are trying to reacquaint themselves with each other both physically and emotionally. Laoghaire's return back to Jamie's life as his wife serves as a betrayal for Claire, but let's be serious: Jamie and Claire are a solid front through and through, and regardless of what comes their way, they've proved countless times that they're willing to sacrifice themselves for each other. Droughtlander may have already begun after that epic season three finale, but let's revisit all the times Jamie and Claire have gone the extra mile for each other.

When Jamie marries Claire to protect her from the British Redcoats

By marrying Claire, Jamie gives her the protection of the Scottish clansmen from Black Jack Randall, who is already suspicious of her. Despite not knowing anything about Claire, he gives her his complete loyalty and devotion, vowing to protect her from any harm.

That time Jamie saves Claire from Black Jack Randall

When Claire tries to go back through the stones, she's captured by the Redcoats and taken hostage by Black Jack Randall. Jamie rescues Claire, and in the process, becomes Black Jack's target.

Jamie fights his way through the witch trial to get to Claire

When Jamie learns that Claire's been imprisoned and tried with Geillis Duncan for being a witch, he fights his way through the crowd to get to her and draws his sword in the court, ready to kill anyone who stops him from getting to his wife.

Jamie and Claire protect each other from the brunt of Black Jack's wrath

When Jamie is imprisoned for treason and taken to Wentworth Prison, Black Jack traps him in a dungeon and Claire and Murtagh try to get him free, but to no avail. At the point, Black Jack threatens to kill Claire if Jamie doesn't surrender himself. As much as it pains him, Jamie endures the physical pain and emotional torture Randall unleashes on him so that Claire can leave unscathed.

Of course, Claire will never leave Jamie to die at the hands of Black Jack, so she and Murtagh concoct a plan to sneak into the prison and get Jamie out.

And Claire saves Jamie from himself

After escaping from Wentworth, Jamie is emotionally traumatized and wants to die. Claire, even at the expense of her own life, tries to get into his psyche and re-create the experience for him so that he can fight his torturer and break free of Randall's internal shackles.

Claire sleeps with King Louis XV to free Jamie from the Bastille

When Jamie goes to jail for illegally dueling Black Jack Randall in Paris, he's imprisoned in the Bastille. Claire, who miscarried their daughter Faith, goes to meet the king and plead for him to free Jamie so they can return to Scotland. In addition to giving the king the name of a sorcerer via the powers she has as "La Dame Blanche," who ends up being Comte St. Germain, she has to have sex with the king.

Jamie and Murtagh save Claire from getting killed by the Duke of Sandringham

When Claire is kidnapped and taken to the residence of the Duke of Sandringham, she learns that he plans to kill her and Jamie because he is in cahoots with Black Jack. Fortunately, Jamie and Murtagh get there in time and, in what has become an infamous scene, Murtagh beheads the duke.

Jamie kills his Uncle Dougal when he comes after Claire

When Dougal eavesdrops on Jamie and Claire's conversation about wanting to kill Bonnie Prince Charlie to stop the Battle of Culloden and hears about Claire's history, he immediately accuses her of being a witch and goes to kill her, but Jamie gets to him first.

Jamie forces Claire through the stones to save her and their unborn child from the Battle of Culloden

When the Battle of Culloden nears, Jamie, who infers Claire is pregnant because she missed her period (what attention to detail!), sends her back through the stones to protect her and their child from meeting the same fate as him. Jamie knows that either he will die on the battlefield or be taken as prisoner and killed by the British afterward.

Claire escapes to the Caribbean to warn Jamie of an arrest warrant

Upon learning that the English captain whose men she's healing of typhoid fever on the Porpoise has an arrest warrant for Jamie, she jumps overboard, finding herself stranded on an island in the Caribbean. After walking through the thick jungle without food and water, trying to find civilization, she becomes dehydrated and falls ill. It's when she's back on her feet again that she learns Jamie and the crew landed on the same island.

After much fanfare, she finally reunites with him again, bruising herself in the process, and lets him know that the English are after him. What dedication!

Jamie goes after Claire when she falls overboard during a storm

During a particularly horrible storm at sea, Claire goes overboard as the Artemis ship disintegrates from the power of the high tides. Jamie swims after her, dragging her up to the surface and resting her head against a wooden board that will carry her to shore.

Claire treats Jamie's gunshot wound and gives him penicillin

After learning that Claire is back in the picture, Laoghaire, whom Jamie married years earlier, aims to shoot her when Jamie gets in the way and gets hurt instead. Despite her anger and feelings of hurt and betrayal, Claire will never let Jamie die under her watch and treats his wound, giving him the penicillin she brought with her from the 20th century. Ah, love.

Jamie and Claire will always look out for each other, even in America

One thing is certain: regardless of what location they may be in — whether it's Lallybroch, Jamaica, or America — they'll always look out for each other.
