There's a new generation in the Conner house in the form of three young people: Emma Kenney as Darlene and David's daughter, Harris; Ames McNamara as Harris' younger brother, Mark; and Jayden Rey as DJ's daughter, Mary.
Mary's mother is off-screen serving in the military when the show picks up, but the show's creators did reveal that her mother is Geena, who was featured in the season seven episode "White Men Can't Kiss." In that episode, D.J. is uncomfortable having to kiss a black girl in the school play. The storyline let the show tackle some serious issues of racism and prejudice . . . and it turns out DJ and Geena ended up getting married. Mary is their daughter.
